I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

Yes, I think so, too. That's basically why it was only a "possible" return. I mostly just wanted to see what they said about it, but when they did not indicate that they could assure me of getting one without the problem, I decided against it. I'm sure the next one would have the same issue.

However, I do think it is good to let them know about these things, and I hope others on this thread will consider doing the same. Who knows, maybe it's a firmware problem that can be fixed with an update. At the very least, if we all tell them about it it will help their quality control standards for the next batch to be released.

If anyone is interested, Amazon has the rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Black) Leather Case Cover ViewSonic [amazon.com] for $5.49. I think this is really good considering it's listed for $40 on Overstock and the cheapest I could find it elsewhere is $18 from one of those Asian importers on Ebay.

It says it's for their gTablet, but according to the gTablet specs [viewsonic.com], it is exactly the same size as our little guy. I measured mine.

It doesn't have a keyboard, but it is a nice leather case nonetheless. I think this one is actually genuine leather. At least, most other rooCases that do not say "vegan leather" are.
I got this case for $4.99. Modified it with and exacto knife, case is fine for the price.
Still looking for a cheap screen protector.

After two weeks of use with Windows 8 with USB wireless I find browsing is a bit sluggish with IE and Chrome. Amazon unbox video runs great, Netflix will crash sometimes. GPS using COM 8 works sometimes, has trouble finding satellites. Kindle app works good.

Anybody find a good screen protector that fits this perfectly? I'm looking around on Amazon and eBay, and the only thing I've been able to find that looks about right is one for a ViewSonic G-Tablet, but I dunno if the dimensions are exactly right or not.

I actually own a gTablet, too.

They are not exactly the same size, though.

Has anyone happened to come across a genuine leather or cloth keyboard case for this? I've done a lot of searching, and I haven't been able to find one that isn't made of fake leather, which I just don't personally like. Cloth is fine, but if it looks like leather, I want it to actually be leather. There are quite a few really nice ones for the ipad, but none that I can see for a 10.1 inch tablet.

Part of the problem of course is that all the so called "leather" ones on which show up on Amazon search results are actually PU leather, i.e. synthetic. I've spent hours combing through search results trying to find a real one that will fit, but no luck.

This is all under W7 where it uses the Adobe flash plugin. On W8, IE now has flash builtin and doesn't use a plugin. There, the Opera + flash plugin should give it the same performance as W7. In W8 IE with builtin flash falls down.
Since I had to reinstall anyways, I went with W8 again. Opera + the Adobe flash plugin works far better than the builtin flash in IE. I wish there was a way to use the plugin with IE so that IE off of Metro could run flash well.

Just tried watching Xfinity. At 1200x800, not even close. At 1024xx768, still too jerky. At 800x600, watchable with breaking audio and a pause every few seconds. At 640x480, smooth as TV with slightly cracking audio.

I just got my case, and it fits perfectly! It is indeed genuine leather. This thing was a steal for $5.49. I still want a leather keyboard case, but for what this is, I absolutely love it.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same case. Mine fits just fine without any need for an exacto knife. And "fine for the price?" Portfolio-style Roocases typically sell for $35 - $40. This one seems to be the exact same one except it's branded for the Galaxy Tab instead:

When clicking on the link My Amazon says I ordered it on Feb 20, the tablet did fit, but for the vents, buttons, lights, and all ports to be clear I had to modify it. The interior case is held on by Velcro.

Yes, that's true, if you wanted all the ports clear you would need to do that. I thought you were saying it didn't fit except with aid of the exacto knife.

But the fact remains that the case is worth far more than the price we paid. I think it was an excellent purchase and I am glad I found it.

Yep. Mine did as well until last night. Turns out it's not the network driver but the USB SD controller D driver that's gone kaput. Took out the SD card as well.
I keep having this happen too. I think windows is replacing the sd card driver (and several others) transparently at a certain interval. The replaced versions, dont work.

Some sort of driver integrity thing.

I installed the Marvell Windows 8 installer last night. I don't know if it will do any good but so far so good.

Try CoreAVC Pro first. I have yet to see a movie which would not play smoothly on this tablet.

Everybody is welcome to post a reference.

Once again, trying to play 1080p movie on the 1280x800 screen is plain stupid.
720p should play just fine, either from the local drive or from the net.

PS: Just tried "The Campaign", 720p Blu Ray rip, smooth as silk Smilie

For the non-believers /and Mrs Troll but of course Smilie/ I can post a video.

See post #1281 laugh out loud

How do I get CorePlayer Pro for Windows? I don't even see the option to buy it on their website.
Promotion by chance?
Hello everyone,

Just joined, because of thousand of posts on a supposedly dead product. Zombies LIVED! On a more serious note, been reading travfar and bagira, U guys rock!

I like to tinker a bit and this unit seems like a good candidate; price is right, HW is OK.

Bagira, would you be able to summarize/condense your work as to get it to work "almost perfectly" with Windows 8? I'd really like to learn that setup.

Well. I was going to make a bad joke, but being a nice guy, I have decided against. it Smilie
Ask the questions.
I didn't use any voodoo or black magic, just careful and persistent approach.
Do you know what RTFM abbreviation means?
Highlights and what is not there:
- Used GMA600 "modified" driver for the Intel video;
- Installed and used Opera browser/Flash player the latest;
- installed updated GPS Prolific drivers using Windows update.
- Installed Classic Shell, all my Windows 8 machines have Classic Shell. "Metro UI" makes me sick.

That's about it.

If you bought it as a gaming tablet or video encoding tablet or heavy calculus/statistical analysis tablet, I have to ruin your sand castle.
This is NOT the tablet you want.
I will take it from you paying a premium and shipping.
So instead of dealing with RMA crap etc send me a PM. All the known defects are supposed to be disclosed by you in advance.

It is a workhorse for Office, 10.1" GPS navigator, audio/video/photo player. Nothing more, nothing less. Internet surfing should be good too, especially w/Opera.
Android x86 2.3 is pretty much useless. Practically NOTHING will run, except ES File Explorer and Opera "special" x86 build. Once again, it is NOT a gaming Android tablet. You wanna gaming Android tablet, get yourself Nexus 7 or something like this. This tablet is not really Android tablet since there are so many faster and more up-to date Android tavblets in existence.

The beauty of this tablet /for me/
- full-blown Windows 7/8 machine with two full size USB ports;
- wonderful 10.1" screen (Viewsonic is known for making some of the best screens in existence);
- Built-in GPS;
- PRICE!!!!!

Did I mention price? I guess I did. If I did not mention it, let me repeat it for you: PRICE!!!Big Grin

In other news: my custom car install has been finished today. You guys will see the pictures of this little beast in action pretty soon. If you will behave yourselves, maybe even a video Big Grin
