I wouldn't suggest canceling the card...They have had repeated use based promotions even after the initial bonus. (spend X get Y, Buy XYZ, get 5x points). I do sock drawer it between promotions though.

But hey if they're offering 2500 points I certainly wouldn't mind considering leaving...
Let us know how it goes.

FWIW I got an email the other day:
Use your Patriots Extra Points Visa® Card April 1 through June 30, 2013 and earn 5 bonus points for every $1 you spend—up to 2,500 bonus points—on purchases you already make today in the following categories¹:

• Restaurant purchases (including fast food restaurants)
• Gas Station purchases
• Home Improvement store purchases

Best of all, this is in addition to the points you already earn for using your card every day.
personally i don't think this is a good offer, depending on what you spend it on. they gave me a 2500 point retention offer for spending $500. the amount of money needed to hit the same MSR is anywhere from $500 to $2500. thus, the retention offer gives you more flexibility, especially if you were using MS to hit the MSR.

Fair enough, but for me I used it everytime I filled up and now that the offer is over I'm on to Discover 5% on gas till October. For grocery shopping we use the BAC card for 2% and then all bonus earned on that get 50% match. As you can see if you do the math the grocery percentage is about 4% if my math is correct! woot
