i've had great luck with eneloops. i've had duracells, energizers, tenergy and maha. With 3 young kids, we go through buckets of NiMh batteries and others. I just replaced some LiOn packs in some toys that developed memory effects.
My older blue tenergy batteries are starting to die off and not take charges. But to be fair, I've had them for well over 6 years with countless cycles (and many with crappy quick chargers). I think a lot of that has to do with the complete draining of these batteries and not catching them before they completely drain (will kill a battery if the polarity reverses/drops to a complete discharge for a while). The chargers make a huge difference too.. What is known is that the fast chargers will do a number on the batteries in terms of heat. The slow charge can differ greatly between chargers too. I noticed one charger had an charging output of 1 amp another had .7 amp. I always go slow now as fast always gets the battery to some seriously hot temp (hot to touch is bad IMO). Get a very good smart charger as it pays for itself in spades in terms of keeping batteries' longevity high! There is a plethora of great information on batteries online, but most of my knowledge comes from a leading elec. engineering Univ. of Texas Prof who's a neighbor who specializes in battery design. :-) I started with eneloops 2 years ago (no duds yet). Maha did ok but a few died within a year. Tenergy did the same with a few dying every year. Energizers started dying after 5 years. To be fair, the eneloops are a completely different quality than the old cheap maha/tenergy batteries which were half the price. I would guess this to be their next generation eneloops competitor. I'd give it a shot if I werent' eyeball deep in rechargeables. Last edited by smallcapguru; 02-02-2013 at 07:08 AM.. |

Anyone have a opinion on what's the best charger for this sort of thing? I'm looking for the best bang for buck that the ability to charge multiple battery types.
Thanks in advance for any info. I'm all about the NY Giants, Android, SDeals, Guns, and always #1... my son.

They may well have gotten better over time, but I bought some Tenergy LSD batteries when they first came out, and they were utterly useless. They maintained a charge worse than non-LSD name-brand rechargeables. Just saying you may not want to buy a ton of these before trying them out first to make sure they've improved. If you want guaranteed quality, go with Eneloops.

What chargers do you find to be the best for you? |

I purchased my first Tenergys about 1.5 years ago from a slickdeal, and I've been extremely pleased with their performance. I live where it's cold and I ride my bike everywhere, and these guys last a very long time in my bike lights (AAAs). I was very surprised at their longevity and durability under sub-zero conditions.
I was also surprised how long they lasted--I was used to the crappy green Energizers. The Tenergys seem to last almost as long as a regular Duracell or Energizer. I do suggest buying a decent charger which will extend the life of your battery and maximize its potential. I use the LaCrosse BC700 [amazon.com], and it seems to work great. I can't say anything about these versus eneloops, but I'd guess that value-wise, the Tenergys win. Ask me again in 5 years ![]() I forgot to add: couple a few packs of these with a charger and you've got a great birthday/Christmas gift for that practical someone in your life.
