Wow, that's a jacked-up thing to say. Sounds like he/she is doing something really nice for their mom -- maybe mom will like all and get to keep them...or not. But returning things is not straining profits -- it's an expected part of doing retail business, and if it weren't, the company has the right to say -- no returns accepted.

That's true within reason. Companies allow free returns on some items because buying online means that you don't have the chance to try things on first. So they expect some returns. However, I try to minimize returns and will often resell or give away stuff that isn't quite right. But if it is a higher priced item and I don't have anyone to give it to, I will return it.

Yes, within reason, absolutely. I get that. But to jump on the poster who was happy to find a deal in order to get some things for their mother and returning anything that mom may not like or doesn't fit right - blaming them for the lack of deals - was just wrong.

I'm guessing you bought the Outdoor Research Enigma jacket for $65? If so, that's the best bargain for a Gore-Tex Pro mixed with Paclite jacket you can find anywhere by any brand.

It's unfortunate that you felt the need to make a personal attack in this thread. What works for you might not work for others. Keep in mind that I have to pay for return shipping (this site doesn't do it for free), and I don't think it's unreasonable to return $60 coats at my expense. They could make it final sale if it was a problem.

Perhaps you should go to the threads where people are actually abusing a retailer's policy than jumping on me. Like using shoprunner for $1 items. But returning $60 coats at my expense seems perfectly reasonable.

Anyways, I won't be returning to this thread to justify my actions anymore, so don't expect that any nasty replies will be responded to.

Realistically, using shoprunner for a $1 item isn't actually worse than returning a $60 coat your expense (at least for the retailer). Department of Goods ships it to you for free and if you return it, they don't make anything from you paying return shipping, UPS does and D.O.G. might not be able to sell the returned items as new depending on laws in their state. Not saying that what your doing needs justification or that it's wrong, just that you paying return shipping doesn't help the retailer.

I can't say that I've noticed that with my Icebreakers. Except for one which had unusually short sleeves, all mine have been fairly true to size.

Your reply wasn't nasty, so I'll respond. If the retailer was covering return shipping, that would be worse, correct? And Dept of Goods could make this a final sale, no returns accepted, correct? And have you called to find out how clothing retailers can resell new items with their tags? And I take it that you're just guessing about the shoprunner example, because keep in mind that shoprunner also offers free returns, so people can return those $1 items free of charge?

Are all of you really committing in advance that you won't return anything? Even if it's so wrongly sized or uglier than expected such that you don't want it and can't find anyone who does (and perhaps for some of you, can't resell profitably on ebay) -- you'll just eat a $50-$100 cost?

Honestly, slickdeals is full of examples of people who actually behave egregiously. Here, I bought things at the advertised sale price, no coupon codes, and will pay to ship back any items that don't fit. Seems like an interesting choice for people to try to get preachy.
