I would say no, it's not a good deal. The NVS 4200M [notebookcheck.net] is not a powerful graphics card since it's based on the GeForce GT 520M. The 1080p resolution is its best feature.
Here are a few recent deals that I think are better: HP Pavilion M7-1015DX Laptop, 17.3" HD+ BrightView LED, Intel Core i7-3610QM Quad-Core 2.3GHz, 8GB DDR3, 1TB SATA, HDMI, USB 3.0, Beats Audio, 802.11n, W7HP $599.99 + S/h (Refurb) SONY 17.3" laptop 1080p Notebook i5 3210M 6GB 500GB 7650M - 649.99 +FS |

It's an OK deal if you're looking for a gaming machine
It's a really good deal if you want a fast, very solid & well built general purpose machine that will last a long time. It's a fantastic deal if you're doing any 3D rendering (CAD, etc) since this comes with a Quadro, which is optimized for 3D business apps. Pop an SSD in there like you're planning to and that machine will last you a very long time. |

It looks like a GREAT deal with those specs!
The Full HD (1920x1080) screen is actually the same one used on the more expensive W520 and on the new T530 and W530. It is a $250 upgrade and considered an exceptional display! The NVIDIA NVS 4200M wasn't intended for gaming (nor was the ThinkPad itself) but it is sufficient for most tasks that normal ThinkPad users may throw at it. The i7-2640M was the fastest dual-core processor in the 2nd generation of Core processors. The 9-cell battery is also a nice upgrade. Installing a SSD will make it just about perfect! You can also make use of the 320GB you remove. The T-series has a removable optical drive (Lenovo called that slot the "Ultrabay") and you can install a second hard drive instead. All you need is the hard drive and an adapter tray from Lenovo that costs about $50. It's an awesome feature if an SSD is your main drive because you can use the secondary drive for file storage. One of the key things I recommend when considering a 'Refurbished' laptop is to check the warranty coverage. If it doesn't have a 1-year Warranty, just like a new model, keep looking. Many refurbs, even from very large online retailers, only have a 90-day warranty...but the 1-year Warranty is good protection and a good sign that it's as good as a new one! I say go for it!
