Whey Protein Powder Analysis - American Pure Whey (nearly 0) | Best Deal is ON 90%

Always had the feeling American Pure Whey (APW) was suspect, they kept posting their on Slickdeals every several months under a new handle with the same content pretending to come off as some member that stumbled upon their deal. While other protein powder companies slowly increased prices due to increased corn feed, APW continually beat the competition from bulk dealers like Costco and Sams Club.
Independent analysis by two parties (1) (2) from Summer 2012 finds American Pure Whey to have little or no protein at 1%. Gaspari Nutrition's Myofusion gives 54% of claimed protein and Body Fortress 53%. Legit brand Optimum Nutrition came out on top for percent of measured to claimed protein at 91% (3).
I'm a bit pissed, because I've purchased protein in those same available flavors as APW from different companies several years back (2008-2010). Pretty sure they were probably from the same shady source. From now on, I'm sticking to more well known brands.
Conclusion: Stay away from American Pure Whey. Even though Walmart's Body Fortress is dirt cheap, it only contains about half of the protein claimed on the label making it a false economy. Gaspari Nutrition isn't much better than Body Fortress. If you can find a good deal on Optimum Nutrition, embrace it and rest assured that you're getting most of what you paid for.
