Total Defense rebate questions

Hi guys, I have a couple of questions about TD products. Many TIA.

1. All TD rebates require activation before rebate submission. Is it really true that products need to be activated? Or can I simply use the activation code to complete the rebate form but never had the product registered with TD?

2. I noticed many TD products have a "FREE $XX AMEX reward card" label on the package, but when I tried to follow the instruction in the manual to file rebate for the reward card, it went nowhere. I can not find the webpage or the prompt window from the software for this additional rebate. If someone has any experience with this rebate, please shed some light.

1. You have to activate the product online with your name, credit card. If you read the rebate form instructions, they say clearly that activation confirmation email is needed. Once thing is to cancel the auto-renewal.

2. I didn't notice any label on my package ( bought it last Dec). Anyway, you won't get double dip for the rebate.

How do I know if I activated? It didn't ask me for any cc info. It did create an online account for me. I don't see any activation button.

Did you ever get the card mentioned on the box? My copy of ISS had a $35 offer on the box for signing up for auto-renewal. The software also mentioned the offer when I was signing up for auto-renew. I think it said there wasn't anything else that I need to do for it.

Which one did you purchase? Some products might not need a CC for activation (ISS?). If it shows up in your online account with the activation code listed then it should be activated.

I was just denied a rebate for my total defense premium internet security rebate for $50 with no explanation why. I did activate and completely fulfill all terms of the rebate agreement.

I have done many many rebates in the past (including competitors Norton and McAfee), and I have never had problems like this.

I would shy away from Total Defense rebates like the plague.

Thanks...I had used my email account and it sent me the email...I had to use the tracking number to get the details.

They said product was not activated...I forwarded them the activation email they sent me and that I had printed out and sent to them as part of the rebate.

Like I said, I haven't had this much trouble before ever.

I had bought two Total Defense products at Staples, one with a $50 rebate and the other with a $20 rebate. I mailed the two separately and got a rejection postcard today. The status online shows two submissions each for rebate amount $70 one of which is marked as duplicate. So I am hoping that this will turn out to be ok, but it is quite weird.

Same here, but I got a rebate card for $70 today.

Only if they have different offer numbers. If you got them during the same month then this is probably not the case.

I bought Total defense Premium Internet Security and Unlimited Internet Security at the same time and got a new denial of rebate reason from Total Defense "you purchased two products at the same time on the same receipt, you only allowed one rebate from one receipt" Once I started arguing, the guy hung up on me. Called again and escalated to a manager and he started saying both products are Internet Security and are considered the same product, he started to question why I bought a product for 5pc (the premium ed.) and had the need to buy another one for 3pc (the regular one). I told him it was none of his business, he hung up on me too. Called again and told them if they did not validate my rebate, I would email BBB and AG, that got their attention and this time I hung up on them. 1 hr later I checked and it was valid and approved now.

The software is terrible anyways. I got a $10 promo from NewEgg..

I installed it on my computer and it was buggy from the start.
