Laptop help ***Update***
Dell Inspiron 1545, windows 7 won't load. sometimes it will say "starting windowns" and just hang there and sometimes it will get to the log on screen but no login box, just the windows blue background. My friend said he ran some kind of diagnostics test within the bios that said "failing hard drive. Could this be it? or maybe try to reinstall windows? It is possible that the HD is failing, as your friend said.
Do you have the means to slave the drive in a USB case or by inserting it into a PC? Then you could do a diskcheck/repair. |

If so, it's best to not play around with it anymore, until you can slave it to save the data. If there's no important data and you want to see if you can save the drive, as unlikely as that might be, you can boot up with an installation disk and go into repair, to get a command box, and from there, you can give it a command to do a diskcheck. |

After pressing f8 and going into advanced boot options then clicking repair your computer, (thinking I could do a factory restore it still does the same thing. "windows is loading files..... then to the log on screen with no login box.
Sounds like the hdd is shot to me but im no genius. |

So what is it you'd like to do now? Do you want to try to make it work again, on the off chance that the drive can be repaired? Or is it something else? |

Also, the drive was never imaged. so no windows 7 installation disc. I hate for him to have to buy windows 7 disc. /**** |

You should have a win 7 key under the laptop or under the battery. you just need to download a copy of that version and you can reinstall windows no problem. ....
