Wow nice work everyone. I just chatted and am getting a refund for 20% of my price, about 15 bucks. I didn't push back at all though, being at work and all so that I could pay my "fair share".

thanks OP for sharing this deal
private client with fidelity. saw $0 premier offer and registered. once on the turbo tax site went to my tools --> fees and a $35 charge was listed. chat useless. will complain to fidelity tomorrow. oddly enough in another family member's account (also private client) same $0 offer appeared and they have $0 listed under fees. i always knew fidelity hated me :p ETA: well it's now working at least for private client customers - was able to click the premier button again and sign into the account i created yesterday, and the fees are now $0. had to do a webchat to get a service code. they asked me to copy and paste the "My Fees" window, to see the total charges. i told them i plan to complete state tax as well. my code covered both fed and state!
wait time was long, chat lasted about 15 minutes. happy its over now. |

I chatted with them to get the downgrade code before I started the State return part. Now I see the charge of $27.99 for the State part. I guess I'll just leave it as it is and don't file the State return with TurboTax. I have H&R Blocks that would efile my State return for free. I compared the 2 programs and found TurboTax includes my State tax payment in the calculation for the Federal return while the H&R does not. At the end, I will pay less federal tax with TurboTax but the State tax is the same with both.

I got a chat rep to give me the free federal premier deal. Ended up paying $27.99 for state.
Figured that was easier than trying to downgrade to the cheaper version. Told him the truth...that the free link was there and then it went away before I got my data from Fidelity. The chat rep gave me a one time use code that made the federal free. |
