Recently built an i-5 2500k from spare parts.

The RAM is Gskill Ripjaws X:

2x 4GB @ 1600 CAS 9
2x 4GB @ 2133 CAS 10

All 16GB running at 1866MHz CAS 10. I know it will go faster, but I'm not going to waste 2 hours trying to squeeze out a few more nano seconds.

So, yes different kits can and will work together. Some tweaking RAM settings in the BIOS and voltage adjustments will be required.

Just set all RAM slots to AUTO and start there, then tweak.
