It's still a pretty lame deal for those who don't like to game online. Then it basically becomes a $35/yr fee to use a WDTV.

On one hand, I can understand their thinking... Microsoft doesn't want to lose money on the console hardware just to have someone use it as a media streamer box. On the other hand... who pays $200 just for a media streamer box when there are so many cheaper options?

I really hope they reform this system with the new XBOX console. It's just embarrassing to be the only device out there that requires a separate subscription to access your Netflix subscription. Want to use Internet Explorer on your XBOX? XBOX Live Gold membership required! Pathetic...

It's sound conjecture. These cards may as well be $35 MSRP as they've been on sale like this for a couple months now. These cards will either not work with the next Xbox, or the next Xbox's online service will allow free online play and charge for a different set of features.

It'll be interesting to see if these Live cards go on fire sale after the new Xbox is formally announced.

If I was into online gaming I would think ~$3/mo is a steal with these annual membership card deals. As a person who wants to offline game, and occasionally use an app, the fact that they charge for that is a slap in the face. They're already making their console hardware loss up in the license fees from the games I buy.

That's the big question. I hope not. I just redeemed 4000 points and don't buy much. Xbox 360 and PS3 are the company's 1st console to buy stuff from point cards. On a similar note, the Wii points and Wii U points (eshop) are different.
