Unlockable.... I'd skip it.
You can get a Asus TF300 Refurb (32GB model) for $30 more and it has a better screen (not to mention plenty of community support). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230876 [http] smithmal There is a $10 off for new customers code at newegg as well bringing this down to $270. ps - cowboom has the TF300 (16GB) model for $190. At this time there is at least one class 6 model available and the cowboom return/warranty policy is second to none: http://www.cowboom.com/product/1096226 Last edited by smithmal; 02-04-2013 at 09:30 AM.. |

This just isn't even a "good" buy anymore... and toshiba product support is terrible (referring to updates and locked bootloaders).
IMO there are going to be quite a few new tablets hitting the streets this year with "as good" to "better" specs at the same price... for an example go to best buy website and search for nabi XD. in pre-order now and no reviews are available yet, but spec wise (btw is better than the toshiba) this should be a solid performer with a better screen to boot. I know the nabi XD looks like a "kids" tablet, but with these specs (which includes NFC), and an aluminum back... I wouldn't mind having one for myself. oh, and the keyboard/case that they are suppose to be coming out with for this tablet could make it a viable general use notebook / laptop replacement. I've bought from them and purchased their warranty. I've never had to actually used it though, but I think it is worth it for peace of mind. Their basic policy is you can't return and replace a purchase product, you can only get your money back minus a small fee (I think). From what I've seen on the net, people are mostly very happy with the ease of the return process with cowboom products. I wouldn't hesitate if I saw something on cowboom and for $190...

All this "you need 300ppi to read text" is such crap. I wrote term papers for years using vga monitors. I researched and wrote my thesis on svga.
Just wait a few years and these people will be telling everyone "omg if you don't have 4k your eyes will fall out if you try to read anything!" Can it be better? Yes. If you have apps written for the higher res and aren't just upscaled lower res anyway. Is it in any way necessary? F no. |

Asus TF300 Refurb (32GB model) is OOS, and TF300 (16GB) model "may have scratches or dents," which is a complete deal breaker for anyone who doesn't want a scratched screen. I was in for one, and after reading all the comments and doing more research, I'm getting a second one. |

We have an iPad 3 and Nexus 7. I prefer the Nexus 7 for its size. Much easier to hold, and play games. Screen resolution is about the same IMO. iPad may be a bit brighter, but no issues at all with the IPS Nexus. My only complaint about the Nexus is the thin build and thin screen. You really have to baby it. Any type of drop without a super protective silicon cover and the glass will break. But same goes with the iPad. The problem you'll run into with this Toshiba is that most apps aren't designed for the larger tablets, so the quality won't be there. On a 7", they look much better. If you're into reading books or newspapers, you should really get a Kindle Paperwhite. iPads are great, but much too expensive for readers. The Nexus 7 works well with everything. All types of websites are scaled well, Youtube videos look great, and games play without a hitch. And the best thing is automatic updating to the latest OS. No more rooting. It was fun with the Nook Color, but not that fun. |

If this was a NEW item, then it does not really matter who the seller is because the manufacturer warranty applies but in the world of refurb's -- that's a whole different ballgame. |

nook is in it's own closed platform and you don't have all the full open capability as an "actual android tablet" yea u can root the nook but there are issues here and there. not to mention the time invested in researching the methods and bug fixes. I rooted the original nook color with cm7 while it was a fun learning experirenece. I would rather get a tablet wit heverything already set up and running. just a matter of how much time u have on your hand and how much your time is worth. =================================
