Symantec/Norton somewhat OT "review"
This isn't going to be a full fledged review of the product, but more their rebate reliability and/or customer service.
I've done upwards of 10 (or perhaps more) Norton rebates in the past few years. All of them have come within six weeks of when I purchased the product. Today, I got an e-mail notification of the status of one of my rebates -- it said "invalid, missing UPC". I pulled up my paperwork that I saved and it showed what appeared to be the UPC. So I did a chat with an agent through their website. I told them I had proof here. He said to check it again ... that the UPC was the 12 digit number. Sure enough, I compared it to past submissions and I put the wrong "bar code" thingie on there. So it was an oopsie on my part. I told him that he was right, it was an oversight on my part...that I typically usually put nearly the entire bottom flap. I apologized and told them that I wasn't trying to swindle them out of a rebate. He said that I was a "valued customer" (I assume from my multiple submissions throughout the years) and did a manual override and changed the status to "valid".
Whenever I see a Norton/Symantec deal come up (I get deal alerts), I have stood up for their product. I always note how it used to be bloatware (it was horrible -- I hated how many resources it took up and how hard it was to remove it from your system). Now, it is light on resources and doesn't let any bad critters through. To boot, not only are their rebates fast -- but if you make an honest oopsie, they are understanding and don't try to squeeze every last buck out of you (even though they had every right to deny me the payout).
Props to Symantec/Norton all around for their vastly improved products and continued fast (and understanding) rebate service!
