These are legal to unlock. And you don't have to use AT&T. I unlock them for free at circlephone * com if you sign up for membership. Check airportal.de for 3G coverage. I have gotten 3G ROAMING on AT&T once, in Minot ND on this service and an unlocked 3GS. A fluke of some sort probably.
 If you can live with 2G/WiFi until the network rollover is complete, you're golden here.

Noob question - I would like to use this with a prepaid service but this doesn't come with a sim card. Could it still be unlocked with one of the ebay services or would I need a sim card from one of the prepaid services 1st?

Ugh I couldn't get my T-Mobile SIM to work with this.. New to smart phones in general though. Was able to get it jailbroken and then paid on ebay to get it unlocked for AT&T but I didnt see any unlocking services for TMobile. Just says its an unsupported SIM and no service. Could it have something to do with my APN settings maybe? I wasn't able to access those on the default settings list so if you think it might help I can prolly download something through cydia to change it.

Costed me only $2, and they literately had a turnaround time of about 3 hours... wiped/restored the iPhone 3GS, bang got the notification from iTunes saying congrats iPhone unlocked FYI: for all those who need a sim card, you can head to any local Apple Store and they'll provide you one for free Last edited by Al2x; 02-06-2013 at 05:40 PM.. |

While 3gs's can run iOS6, they are VERY slow these days.
The absolute minimum iPhone I'd recommend to anyone would be an iPhone 4, and even that is seriously starting to show it's age. Ideally you'd want at least a 4s. |
