awesome deal, no one TU?! or no one knows this drive....

TU. I have the older 500gb version in my laptop. Seagate should really try to market this drive better. It took a week or so for the drive to learn what apps I use on a daily basis, but after that, this was significantly faster than any other laptop drive I've used. In a mobile environment, it's hard to do an SSD if you have a lot of data to carry around (and I absolutely do not want to drag an external drive with me) and it's even harder to justify the cost of a 500gb SSD. This drive is super awesome for the laptop segment. Mass data + SSD speeds for the cost of a standard laptop drive? Yes please!

Any chance that Amazon matches this? I'd really like to have it before the weekend with Prime.

Not just for laptops. Great last-breath upgrade for older desktops running Windows XP, especially if your old hard drive is nearing capacity. Unlike pure SSD drives, this one doesn't require Windows 7 for proper function.

I put one in my office machine at work. One thing I was unprepared for was how much quieter it made my system. The constant hard drive chatter disappears almost entirely.

If you buy one of these, you can download Seagate's free drive cloning software to image your old drive onto the Momentus in a few minutes. Just hook the new drive to your machine, install the software on your old drive, and run. The software checks to see that at least one of the drives is a Seagate product before running.

what's the consensus on this type of TigerDirect MIR? Is it a decently safe bet or should I avoid like the plague?

I love SSD drives... I have a 180GB Intel in my notebook and its just made it an insanely quick...

good for people who need the added storage- but personally im glad i ebayed mine and got an actual SSD- despite all the learning nonsense that the drive manufacturer harps on, a true SSD is much faster.

I've lately been thinking of installing one of these in the second partition of my slow laptop whilst having a full SSD drive in the first (Raid 0). Is it worth going down this route? Thanks.

Fantastic Drive for people who want SSD-like speed and a lot of storage! Have it in my 13" Macbook pro and the speed increase is noticible.
