Awesome lens, tho manual focus, the colors are incredible, loving it also for food photography. Build like a tank, it's a steal at this price. The sigma is nice if you need auto focus.. and it's much lighter, but it's for small sensors only... I can use this Rokinon beast on my full frame or crop canons. It's also manual aperture, at least on canons!! Whereas he sigma is point and shoot.
Bit of a noob here.
Would someone please explain the difference between this lens and the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM lens from last week (link)?
The only thing they really share in common is focal length and aperture. Besides, that, they are completely different beasts.
The Sigma 30mm is an auto-focus lens designed for APS-C cameras. It can't really be used on full-frame, but it does well on cameras like the T3i. For someone starting out or shooting things moving quicker (kids, sports, etc), that'd be the option. The Rokinon is completely manual; both for focus and for exposure. But, you can use it on a full-frame camera with great results, it's an excellent lens for video work (focus ring is nice, etc), and compared to what a usual 35mm is for full-frame, it's 1/3 the price.
So, this lens is really more for people who either have experience with manual focus, or who are willing to take the trade-off to save money (either for video work or more stationery stuff).
