I don't know much and am looking for my first drill to do little things around the house (install fixtures, curtains...). Is this a better deal than the $59 Bosch? [homedepot.com]

I have that Bosch PS20-2A and it is a very nice little tool. It is not really a drill though, it is made as a driver only. It accepts only 1/4" hex bits, such as screwdriver bits and special drill bits that are made with the 1/4" hex end. This Milwaukee has an actual chuck to it, so it is a little bulkier but can accept almost any regular cheap drill bit or any kind of screwdriver or other bit. It's a little more versatile and if you were only going to have one and choose between those two, this Milwaukee is probably a better choice.
But if you just want a cheap drill, there are plenty of them available. With this one, you are paying a premium for a quality brand and the small size. If those are important to you then this is a great deal. If a bigger tool doesn't bother you, you can get a decent 18 volt drill for around $100 any day of the week. I didn't even get started with the mini 12 volt tools until I had a pretty good collection of bigger stuff. |

Picked one up for $89. Milwaukee is definitely above a Ryobi or Craftsman tool line. We switched from Dewalt to Milwaukee at my previous work (a large awning installation company) because the previous design of the battery on the Dewalts were prone to breaking. The Milwaukee drills would take ten foot drops and keep on ticking.

I will say that one feature that I really like about the Milwaukee tools is the on-board battery meter. It's saved me on so many occasions! Last edited by Interex; 02-05-2013 at 12:39 PM.. |

$149 here too, might add YMMV. Was in Home Depot last night and noticed they had several deals in store that are showing as online only/exclusive and OOS on their web site, such as the $179 combo kit with the M12 hammer drill, impact driver, and multi-tool, or the $99 M12 multi-tool and screwdriver. Anyway, good deal on the hammer drill if you can find for $89.
EDIT: Price actually changed to $89 when I found a store where in stock and added to cart, even though it showed $149 originally. Last edited by TheBeaver; 02-05-2013 at 01:01 PM.. |

I picked up the Milwaukee M12 about a year ago for work (building maintenance). I use the Milwaukee over the larger 18V Dewault because it is much lighter and easier to handle. I haven't run into anything yet the M12 couldn't handle.
Double check the box before you pick it up from Home Depot. The first one I bought had a C-clamp in place of the batteries and charger. |
