Deal Details

AARP Has an online Driver Safety Course here...

http://www.aarpdriversafety.com/

Using the coupon code BHM2013 the course is only $5
The coupon for the online class seems to work whether you're a member or not.

Discounts vary from state to state. May need to contact your insurance provider for more info. Here is some more info from the AARP website (note: some states require insurance companies to discount insurance after a drivers safety class). http://www.aarp.org/home-garden/t...ounts.html

60 days to complete the 4- to 8-hour course (spread out, if you want).
The $5 offer, in honor of Black History Month, looks like it expires on Feb. 28.

If this was already posted, my apologies... searched, didn't find anything.

-Trevor

This course is slow going. Some may prefer a live course.

This requires a lot of clicking next. And there's lots of info that is kind of useless for younger folks. Maybe the creators needed filler materials.

Glad this deal came along! Our prevention course credit is expiring on 4/25 so Liberty Mutual told me I have to complete it before then, otherwise that discount drops.

https://harmonia.dmv.state.ny.us/pirp/#ipirp They also sent me this link that shows eligible courses in NY and confirmed AARP online was on there and that my husband and I could take it even though we are not 55+.

Not sure how accurate it is, but on my Liberty Mutual account it says that the course has saved us $939 (not sure if that is per year or overall).

Thanks OP!

If you dont have a car yet but will get one in the near future could this lower your cost when you get it?

this is a pretty slow going course, easy enough to set up the laptop on the tv tray and click next as it moves along, and only rarely interrupts ones time with their xbox Smilie

The course completion certificate is good for three years, so you'll already be good to go when you get that car. You'll need a driver's license ID # when taking the course, since the certificate will be linked to your ID. The insurance discount, at least in NY, only applies to the liability portion of your premium, not the comprehensive collision portion.

I've been taking these courses every three years in-person for decades, and truly enjoy them. The instructors are usually retired police officers/troopers and always have personal experiences to share. And you can ask them tons of questions, like confirming if they have ticket quotas. bounce I think taking it in person is the way to go, but if you want to save a few bucks on the course and suffer through it, give on-line a try. I'm not due for another two years, so I'll skip this but will recommend it to others. It's the other people on the road that I have to worry about. look around

I just completed my course now. Although it is designed for older drivers, it is useful for all. you will get discount (for me $20/6 months in NJ - Ameriprise) from insurance companies and valid for 3 years. Total 8 units and each having an unit test then a final exam at end of Unit 8. they are simple. Unit 7 & 8 are of small duration. Rest of the units are average duration of 1 hour. I believe everyone can pass the exam.

Has anyone from NY taken this course? Do you need to take it right away or can I purchase it now and take it in a few months? Also, did it make you take quizzes?

Yes, I am doing it only half way...to the Unit 4. I will hit the sacks & continue it tomorrow.

Don't worry about the quiz...it just a test of your common senses, except the traffic signs & lane.
Good luck...
