Deal Details

AARP Has an online Driver Safety Course here...

http://www.aarpdriversafety.com/

Using the coupon code BHM2013 the course is only $5
The coupon for the online class seems to work whether you're a member or not.

Discounts vary from state to state. May need to contact your insurance provider for more info. Here is some more info from the AARP website (note: some states require insurance companies to discount insurance after a drivers safety class). http://www.aarp.org/home-garden/t...ounts.html

60 days to complete the 4- to 8-hour course (spread out, if you want).
The $5 offer, in honor of Black History Month, looks like it expires on Feb. 28.

If this was already posted, my apologies... searched, didn't find anything.

-Trevor

I'll call up Allstate (CA) and ask about this tomorrow. Sounds like a good deal though.

I got my Course completion Certificate by Post. they mentioned Certificate no. DL No. Date of Birth and course completion date. I am going to fax my certificate to Ameriprise. they said they will update the revised premium from the course completion date and refund will be given to the CC i used to pay.

This class is for truly inept drivers who should not be on the road in the first place because they are a danger to themselves and others.
Such drivers would be quickly dead in the European highways. In the US the lanes are reversed, the right lane has become the fast lane and the left one the slow one and most drive in the center lane.
Everyone in the US should have to take a driving school like the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving once every 5-10 years or so, and its Advanced Teen Driving Program every couple of years until you turn 25. You don't pass, you don't drive.
God, if you have to be reminded what right-of-way means you should not be driving!

nope, no quiz after unit 8, just the one you took during unit 8. Smilie
Same here no quiz. Awful course, it literally took more than 8 hours for the painful clicking and voice verification after every unit.

Seriously, even though I wasn't paying too much attention. 90% of the course was common sense.

I bought in but now that I think it over more I am regretting doing it. In my state, NJ, you can take this course if you get points and thereby negate the insurance hit which can be $300 a point for 3 years. It might have been better to wait to take it in case that happens, and have this as an "ace in the hole". NJ has a "Bribe" surcharge for speeding that make a points speeding into a no points ticket but it charges about $450, so that is an almost automatic plea bargain.

Tomorrow is LAST day to use the code. The course is VERY long (no way 4 hours as indicated by the course, more like 8 hours or longer. They figure Seniors have nothing better to do). The flash player will make you "suffer" through really long and boring, repetitive facts from the NHTSA.

Can anyone with Geico Policy in CA tell me whether if only one person 55+ can apply this to their ins policy or can more than one person apply this discount to the same policy?

I've just faxed my certificate to my insurance company. They will take prorated amount off my remaining balance.
But to be hones I regret on participating on this…
Because: the course can be taken once in every 3 years and I had no points on my license and according to https://harmonia.dmv.state.ny.us/pirp/
"You cannot use the course as a credit against future driver violation points."
So If I happen to get a speeding ticket in upcoming 3 years, I have no way of getting rid of the points which also potentially will raise my premium.
But there is a positive side too. Knowing that now, I will drive more cautiously and if in 3 years I won't get any points to my license: I'm a happy SDer, if else I hate this deal.

Not true. The course can be retaken within the three years to remove any newly accumulated points. You can probably also have insurance update their information so that your rolling three years starts again with the retake date.
