AARP Has an online Driver Safety Course here...

http://www.aarpdriversafety.com/

Using the coupon code BHM2013 the course is only $5
The coupon for the online class seems to work whether you're a member or not.

Discounts vary from state to state. May need to contact your insurance provider for more info. Here is some more info from the AARP website (note: some states require insurance companies to discount insurance after a drivers safety class). http://www.aarp.org/home-garden/t...ounts.html

60 days to complete the 4- to 8-hour course (spread out, if you want).
The $5 offer, in honor of Black History Month, looks like it expires on Feb. 28.

If this was already posted, my apologies... searched, didn't find anything.

See if your state qualifies
http://www.aarp.org/home-garden/transportation/info-05-2010/auto_insurance_discounts.html

In CA, Geico provides discounts up to 5% only
- if you are over 50 and
- complete the course voluntarily.

In CT, Liberty Mutual discounts 8% if
- You are over 56 years and
- Complete the AARP course.

In IL, Esurance. 10% off Body and Injury liability for 3 years.
---55 and older

In Pa: Nationwide discounts 5% if you're 55 or older if you complete this AARP course. [source my NW agent told me]

Same in VA

Linky [geico.com]
Same in UT http://www.geico.com/information/states/ut/defensive-driver/

Had some problems while taking course and when I called the help number they told me not to use IE but they were recommending people use Chrome.

Why is this a discount for Black History Month? Are they trying to say black drivers need this course?
Or old black drivers?

Seems you get this discount only if you are above 50, for CA Geico policyholders... Please see below from Geico website:

The Golden State

California Defensive Driver Discount

If your policy is rated for the state of California, you could save up to 5% on applicable coverages by taking a defensive driving course. One way to take advantage of this discount is through an online defensive driving course offered by the National Safety Council.

Completing this defensive driving course offers you the following benefits:

Discounted price of $19.95 for GEICO policyholders.
Convenient processing. After successful completion, the course completion number will automatically be sent to GEICO. Your policy will then be updated to reflect the discount.
In California, you may be eligible for this discount if:

You are 50 years of age or older; and
You have voluntarily completed a defensive driving course meeting the standards established by the National Safety Council (NSC).

I would recommend that people register for the course, but don't take it right away.(if this is an option)

It is true that you get a discount, however the real use of this course is that it can act as a magic wand and waive away your speeding ticket. The kicker is that you have complete a course AFTER you get the ticket.

One can only attempt this course once every 3 years.

Just got off the phone with Ameriprise Auto Insurance - they don't offer a discount for Online Driving Courses for drivers younger than 60 years of age.

The course is painfully slow. I can read much faster than the slides, but they won't let me skip ahead

Do I have to register the participant now? Or can I do that later from the email? I'm getting one for various family members. Can I get multiples with the same email and credit card?

At least in CA, this wouldn't work for keeping the point off your record for a traffic ticket. There are separate "approved" courses for that, and you still have to pay for the ticket...it'd just keep the point off of your driving record. This AARP course is much more painful to sit through then those.

It says the course is for drivers 55 and older. Will I still qualify for a discount if I'm in my 30s?
It's not for you young whippersnappers!! Butthead!

I accidentally ran RED light, super unfortunately there were Camera...
The ticket costs 540 dollars, and there are a few kinds of ticket that court can not reduce the fine...including Red light.. (I guess it has to support the cost of the equipment or California budget crisis..)
Now I am supposed to take traffic school so that violation can be sctratched off from the record..
Can I take this safety course for this purpose...?

Thank you for helping US...!!!!
