Good price but looks like a crap shoot as to how much damage the unit you will receive will have. Much of the negative feedback is about kindle devices.

If you have prime you could get this to utilize the 'lending library' feature. (you have to have a kindle from what I understand)

still debating. the reviews for the seller show both positives and negatives for this particular one. ive never owned a kindle. from my experience playing w/ them, i'd prefer a keyboard one. any advice?

I have a Nexus 7 and this kindle. This is easier on my eyes if I'm going to be reading a book for a while. I think this is a great deal on a kindle and would be buying one if I didn't already have one.

These came out in 2009. I highly doubt they've replaced the batteries.

I don't understand what UNLOCKED means wrt this device? Doesn't Amazon provide the cellular service for free?

i think it's just a way for the seller to prevent unnecessary questions... i have a feeling someone who doesn't know that the service is free will email them asking if it's unlocked once they see 3G. just a hunch.

Can't comment on the damage. Honestly, I don't think I'd care if there was any damage to the case so long as the screen was good. I had one of these; paid retail for it and was super super happy with it. Eventually it was stolen; and I have since bought a paper-white.

The integrated backlit display of the paperwhite is really really sexy; but the touch screen mechanism gives a slight glare that wasn't present on this model.

If you like to read and can't afford/justify a new kindle purchase, I highly, highly recommend jumping on this. I also have prime, and the lending library feature is genuinely 'meh'. However, there are infinite classics in the public domain; and if you aren't morally against it, you can torrent thousands of books as well.

These things are *better* than reading on a book. They are just as easy on the eyes as reading on a book, but the thing is lighter, and you can read with one hand.

Not to mention, the free 3g saved my ass in Nicaragua one time when I was lost. The internet is slow, the browser is crap, but I was able to get information I needed. Free 3g in so many countries is sort of insane.

Tempted to pick one up and hack it into a modem; at this price I don't really care if I get shut down.
