@The two above replies. I know it isn't used. I was reply to the comment about used modems. Just a little PSA.
So from what I can tell, this modem is useless with most cablecos. My 6121 maxes my D3 speed. It's good if you need a new modem, but it has no advantage over 6120 w/ current speed offerings. Wake me up when 100/50 is <$100mo |

there are also several threads at DSL Reports about firmware on customer owned modems. TWC will not upgrade your firmware. there was a story about one of the ISP's bricking several customer owned modems pushing out a new firmware so now they won't do it. some people getting the 3.0 modems used had older firmwares and had some issues. Motorola will not provide firmware upgrades. they are specifically written and distributed by the ISP's.
something else to keep in mind when buying your own modem... |

Folk i changed out a old Surfbord Docs 2 for this one and speed jumped to 25 with nothing on my end ( same price diff Mac ofcorse) i once worked at Broadcom in SJ , in the lab (settop boxes were tested and tweeked) they had a full Motorola Cable Headend and full inhouse cable system...i worked on the Satellite baseband end and had managed hardware on this system....so this lab had racks of streaming servers looping content and taking feeds from the birds and re-insering just like mini-Comcast...^(&^) cool i love RF!

if it doesn't work, tell them it's a sb6121 and they will push that tftp config which should be compatible.
if you are on basic cable (e.g. < 20mbps), then docsis 2.0 is fine. Last edited by blahblahyoutoo; 02-06-2013 at 07:20 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

with firmware upgrades and new tchnology always popping up unless you can utilizes the 3.0 features currently, you are better off waiting until you need this as opposed to buying it in hopes of being "future proof". |

I purchased one of the brown box modems from ebay for TW and I have only problems. It would timeout and reboot 3-4 times a day which disconnected me for 2-3 minutes. Not a major problem, but if you using voip it can be a problem.
Google "sb6141 t3 timeouts" to see the errors I was getting. Apparently my line is not good all the time and the modem gives up pretty quickly. I am back to the old modem that TW supplied and my problems have gone away. (Old modem more tolerant of noise) Now I am looking for a different modem that may work better. TW cannot/will not fix my line. |

I went with the 6121 since i had a staples coupon and got it for $70. the only difference is the 8 downstream channels on the 6141 vs 4 on the 6121. giving the 6141 the ability to reach 300mbps. other than that i dont know what other advantages the extra 4 channels brings. |
