First off, the description says it is new, but it is posted in the used section. I have student prime so shipping for me was free and fast. Item arrived as described and appears to be brand new.

I know that this has been cheaper, but it seems to rarely go on sale, I have been waiting for a long time and finally decided this was a good enough deal for me.

Need to get one of these within the next month to get rid of a rental and this seems like the best deal I'll see for a while so guess I'll be ordering. Thanks.

Worked for many online sellers, enough time to know the truth. If its new there will be no need to take it outside of the original box, no such thing as Motorola brown box, It's Most likely to be a refurb

I don't think motorola honors warranty on non-retail box items. This review of the seller seems to support that notion...

"I ordered the same product from this seller in July 2012. Worked fine till Dec and then had issues. Motorola would not honor the warranty as this was not a retail box item. I ordered again after carefully reading the description. Seller did not list this as a "non-retail box" item, which led me to believe I was purchasing the item in a retail box. Very misleading!"

I have this modem and was anticipating great results, unfortunately that wasn't the case. It constantly resets itself and sometimes takes hours to start working again. That's a normal thing with this modem if you search online. Just a heads up.

these may also have old firmware that you likely can't update. Motorola doesn't release firmware upgrades to the public. they are written and distributed specifically for/by the ISP.

from the seller customer reviews:

1 out of 5:"Sold me a modem that originally was property of Comcast; I was shocked when I found a "rental" fee on my cable bill and Comcast informed me that the modem was formerly their property, and not brand new. I only discovered this yesterday, so I couldn't return it. "

4 out of 5:"Modem in good condition, very speedy delivery (arrived 2 days early). The only complain that Customer S/N was missing, had to call Motorola to get it registered on network"

"This was a used modem but I was not able to use since I was not able to register the modem with my provider. The mac number was not readable there had problem to have it registered. No so thrilled with it since I spent 27 dollars for nothing."

"I received the product in a timely manner but Comcast could not register the system. Then there was no way to contact the seller except for by email and that was a pain. So I have no choice but to return the product."

"At was listed in very good condition on the site when I purchased. The label on the unit is in very bad condition and I cannot read the mac ID. As such, this item is useless to me. Your help is appreciated in resolving this matter. I needed a replacement unit today, so a little in a bind! Thank you. Annick

"The modem was DOA. Comcast was able to add the modem onto their network however it would not communicate. Bought replacement modem directly from Cisco for only $16.00 more with free shipping. On the Cisco site they are selling refurbed versions of this same model for $49.00, which is what I think this modem was and why it was DOA. Ostell should mention that they aren't selling new but refurbs."

"Not in "Very Good" condition. Anyone would describe it's condition as "fair", scratched all over."

well, those are certainly not good reviews, but like I said, I installed mine just fine. I called comcast and had them update the firmware from their end and everything went smoothly. Hopefully anyone who purchases this because of this post has my luck.

you are lucky to have Comcast update the firmware. TWC won't do it.

For anyone that's interested in the higher model SB6141, there is a merchant on ebay (called Modems-Modems) selling brand new ones them for 88...however, they have a "make offer" button. Last night, I made an offer for $65.50 and it was accepted. There is a thread on SD's competitor FW where people have successfully made bids under $70 with success (sorry, I can't put up a FW link here). I typically wouldnt put up a post about an ebay seller, however, the person has sold over a thousand with 100% positive feedback. Where he's getting these from...now that's another story.

EDIT: I live in NYC looking to get to rid of the $4 TWC rental fees too. If Anyone has had success swapping their old modem for this one in NYC, I'd love to hear about it. I'm worried about the stories online that TWC wont update the firmware. Thanks! Oh, and according to FW, people received these modems from this ebay merchant within 2 days. I'll post feedback if I get it this weekend.

I want to add to this and say that I bought one from that seller a month ago and did the make offer for 68 and got it. Modem came quick and its been up and running, however I have had issues on it restarting but it usually takes 15-20 minutes and it comes up and stays on.

My Costco sells a Moto DC3 modem for $75. Personally, I would rather spend the extra $10 and get it at Costco.
