It wouldn't be particularly easy to put a decent pickup in your acoustic. You can get clip-on pickups or mics of questionable quality from eBay for the $20-30 range, but your best bet in this line would be asking your local music store if they can help. It should cost around $60 for parts and labor to put a cheap pickup permanently into an acoustic from a small business or single person experienced enough in the hobby.

Whether that's worth it is up to you. I think starting on electric with a solid body would be best because they're smaller and give you more room to learn how to maneuver your hands properly. They're also near-silent when being played at a reasonable rate and un-amped, whereas the whole point of an acoustic is to amplify sound in the body, and you might bother other people you live with -- especially when starting.
