No you're missing the point. What we're saying is this guitar is unenjoyable (unless smashing or hanging on the wall is your objective. It will only frustrate a beginner if they are trying to learn on this as they won't be able to decipher that this will be out of tune immediately or impossible to tune. Like i mentioned earlier i picked one of these up at sears (going on the wall in my case) and can look down the neck and see the twist and off center from the bridge. No way a simple G chord will even sound good with this.

Maybe you got a defect? Maybe they have a high defect rate?

I haven't picked up my acoustics, yet -- so I'll reserve judgment. But after getting my electric that people were whaling on, I have to disagree -- it sounds just fine and holds tune even after hours. For $32, it's exactly what the previous poster said -- a great deal for someone familiarizing themselves, or getting their first electric, or getting one for a kid. I'm having plenty of fun with mine (I typically use nylon string classical). It's perfect.

AND a bit of a follow up. I actually got two electrics. I opened one and it has a split in the neck near the top (wood). I called up First Act, and they don't have these in stock for replacement, so they're sending me a different model at no charge, and from the looks of it, they're not asking me to return the defect (guess I'll see when it comes). So, it'll be the WORK PLACE guitar -- so I can smash it against the wall :p Seriously -- $32, it's great. For $20, I'll be the acoustic is fine, too -- but could see a lot of defects -- it's a 'cheap' product. I got a nice Yamaha at Costco a few years back for like $100 -- I'm sure it's gobs nicer than the First Act at normal retail...but we're not talking about normal retail here. It's $20.

I bought one of those Disney guitars they had at Walmart a while back for my daughter -- if you want to talk about a crap product, that won't hold tune through a strum. Or some souvenir ukelele from Hawaii -- yeah, no fun. But if this acoustic holds anywhere near what the electric does, it's WELL, WELL worth it.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not encourage First Act to keep making these things. I play guitar, and I am not being a snob when I say that these things are not worth buying, even if they were a dollar. The guitar has a sharp learning curve, it is easy to get frustrated, hard to practice enough to get calluses, and playing one is not as intuitive as the piano. These guitars only discourage kids from ever learning, because even a skilled player CANNOT make it sound good. The only reason these keep selling is that non-guitar players buy them for their kids. You can get something better for $35 here.

Buying a guitar from musiciansfriend.com is like buying electronics from Crutchfield, even if you buy the cheapest thing, it is still decent. You also may want to consider buying your child a classical guitar, 3 of the strings are nylon (easier on the fingers), and the fretboard is wider, may be easier to finger, if the child has bigger hands. Just my two cents.

As a follow up, I'm only commenting on the acoustic guitar; it is much more difficult to make an acoustic guitar than an electric guitar, since electrics pretty much just need good frets and a decent pickup. ...the body of an electric guitar is not really necessary. The sound is from an electronic pickup. That is why the First Act electric MIGHT be okay (never tried one). The acoustic relies on the wood, the construction, the quality of the frets, the strength and straightness of the neck, etc.

Finally decided to buy the keyboard and even an electric guitar because the price was too amazing, but it's OOS at every place available to me AND on mygofer. The electric guitar has doubled in price. BOOOO AGHHH

TLDR: the acoustic is smaller than a full size and sounds like it cost $19.99. its good for kids or a throwaway/camping guitar, thats about it.

bought an acoustic and picked it up in store the other day; its OK, actually its not bad for $19.99.
The guitar itself is maybe 80% the size of a real guitar; it feels like it was intended for kids; the strings and the frets are closer to each other than on a regular sized acoustic. it sounds like it's worth $19.99.

I would only buy this if its for a kid (age 12 and younger should be fine), or if you want a throwaway guitar if you go camping (the reason why i bought it). chords can be played more or less the same way you would on a full guitar, but any type of fancy fingerwork is going to trip you up. i have small hands, and even i will sometimes be on two strings with one finger.

Follow-Up:

Got mine home yesterday and was able to get it tuned right on and it held the tune just fine for me. Went through a variety of songs with it and for $20 bucks am pleased.

However, be careful when tuning as the bridge mounting seems to be the biggest weak spot here. As I was tuning, especially the 1st and 2nd strings, I could hear some crackling from the glue holding the bridge to the body. Nothing a few drops of CA glue can't fix though.

+1. I like the electric guitar, but would not recommend buying AL363 acoustic guitar, even for $20 - it's a piece of junk, from my point of view.

I bought it in January 2013 for my kid (my jumbo size guitar is a little big for him), then had to return it back to K-Mart. It had fairly straight neck and (more of less) proper height of the strings above it, but frets were not properly positioned. Even on lower frets (i.e. 2nd), when you press the string, it would tend to play the 3rd tune instead, or would give you a "buzzing" sound of both tunes.

Also, there is no adjustable truss rod to adjust the height. You simply cannot play, without doing some mechanical work on frets (filing, nailing, etc).

i just picked up mine yesterday and tho it looks nice. it's kinda of a pos beater guitar. the metals are sharp! be careful. i had to file them!
The string snapped after i tried tuning it. i'm sad i didn't even get to play it yet.

Picked up acoustic guitar for my daughter to learn on. Worth $20 to me.

GREAT post. I have no clue about anything when it comes to instruments. I've been passively wanting to learn acoustic guitar, but I know that I won't put in the time that I need to. I ordered the cheapo First Act one and it's in the mail. I'll be refusing the package now since I ordered what you just suggested. $29.99 shipped for something with great reviews from a reputable dealer is completely worth the $10 extra for me.

Planning on getting the keyboard. Anyone know if it comes with a power adapter .Also if it doesnt come with one, please can you let me know which one to get.My 5 yr old has just started learning to play the piano and at this price , it is too good to pass. Any help is appreciated.TIA
