Why does Craigslist rotate my pictures before posting them?

RUsum1 9,544 1,696 February 6, 2013 at 08:50 AM
I have some pictures I want to upload to a Craigslist ad of mine. On my computer all of the pictures are in the correct orientation however when I try to upload many of them, they are rotated in a random way. Some are rotated once counter-clockwise. Another is rotated 180 degrees. Another could be rotated once clockwise. I tried adjusting the size to make it smaller in case I was somehow over the pixel limit but that didn't seem to fix anything. What is the problem here?

Embedded EXIF data perhaps? What program are you opening them with on your computer? It might be automatically rotating them for you.

I haven't had this problem, and I wondered why some people post sideways (or even upside-down) pics of their cars laugh out loud

I use Paint.net to open and edit the pictures. They were pictures taken with my Android phone

Yeah it kind of sucks. I tried moving the picture to another folder, making the picture a different size, rotating the picture in the program again to see if that would help. So far nothing seems to work

Those upside down cars are cheap for a reason. It is not a rotate pic, they were flipped in accidents.

Find some pics on CL, just make your pics specs like those. Easy.

Not all of my pictures get rotated even though they have nearly identical specs. I thought one reason might be because the width was smaller than the height but another one of my pictures is like that and posts correctly.

I have had the same issues since their last site update as well.

I simply pre-rotated them the opposite direction that CL rotates them, and they appeared on the site right side up. And like you, not all pics were rotated by CL, so I had to go back and un pre-rotate those pics and reload them to the site.

I'll keep that in mind for the future. They are only pictures of blu-ray covers for movies I want to sell in order to show what versions I'm selling so the orientation and clarity isn't really THAT important for this particular post.

I used to get ghosted postings somewhat often before but it has been pretty good lately.

Not sure, I haven't really changed my posting method. I just know before I would try to search for my post a day after creating it and it wasn't there at least 50% of the time. Now it has been there probably 10 times in a row.
