A Game of Thrones Deluxe Edition Hardcover Book (A Song of Ice and Fire #1) $8 + Free In-Store Pickup

I got mine in store today for $7.98 and used the 15% coupon that was emailed to me to bring the price down to $6.78 and with taxes it cost $7.34 out the door. I called my store after I received the email stating the book was reserved for me in store at BN just to make sure it was there before I made the trip out there.

Like to recommend the audiobooks to everyone. Grab the CDs at you local library, rip to ipod. Listen in the car. The first 3 books are read amazingly by Roy Dotrice. Skip the 4th, jump to Dance of Dragons. There is SOOOO much more than the HBO stuff.

A Feast For Crows was read by Roy Dotrice recently. It's on audible and your favorite Internet back alleys.

Tyrion & Jon Snow are my fave characters. Both were missing from AFFC & only Jamie Lanister's chapters would've been of interest. The rest were Cerce and Brianne, and I didn't want to wast time with them given the outcry about that book's endless ramblings.

The library CD sets' audio quality is IMHO far better than the low bitrate mp3s. They are uncompressed WAVs and carry more depth and inflection than the 60bps mp3s on audible. That being said, mp3s were how I found this series, and later the CDs.

I'm listening to Dragons and it's got a case of "ramblicitis" too... the first 3 were the best. I hope Dotrice is alive for the last book when (if) it comes out.

The idea that you should just skip a book that adds an immense amount of character depth and integral storyparts is asinine. You can't skip a chapter in ASOIAF without missing a lot of substance, much less an entire book. I suggest you do a reread of the series to get an appreciation of what the books bring. People get so attached to Tyrion, Jon, and Dany the first time through they pay little attention to the other characters. Book 4 was fantastic.

Martin wrote books 4 and 5 as one giant tome, and the publisher decided to split it in half. I read the descriptions on the SOIAF wiki, and sure enough... Brianne wanders around looking for Sansa, Cerce wonders about the royal court, and nothing much really happens. As it is, not a whole hell of a lot's happening in book 5 either. Definitely nothing as epic as books 1-3.

Based on book 5, with it's endless ramblings and tedious descriptions and vainglorious verbal wanking, I'm more than happy to sacrifice the half which doesn't interest me, asinine though it may be in your mind. I'll watch the abridged summary on HBO.

Trust me, I may have saved you hours of wasted reading. You should check out the Amazon reviews for books 4 & 5 before you waste time on them. The devotees are up in arms.

Old thread, but just want to let people know that these may still be readily available at this price at your local stores! Probably the best 8 bucks I've ever spent, contemplating picking up another just to have. I have been interested in the show for a while but decided to buy the book instead when I saw this deal, and I am loving the story so far (half way through).

Can anybody recommend a specific printing/ version of the rest of the book to purchase? I was looking into to getting the mass market box set but now I am thinking about picking up hardcovers of each book. I would have liked to have a matching set but does not look like I can do that. Probably will have to go with the ones that are easily found at B&N, for about 20 bucks a pop. Those ones are attractive enough, I suppose.
