Again, others in this very thread have reported bad experiences with cheap cables that other cheap cables (sometimes NEW cheap cables) couldn't fix. Yes, I know it's not everybody and yes, I'm happy you weren't hit by the "bad cable bug", but again, my experiences have been shared by others -- PS3/HK issues and just "issues" in general. So what percentage of a failure rate is "typical" or "not "typical"? if others are having it as well?

Pretty safe to say that any cable that is "thrown to the wolves" in a quantity of 10 for $12 is a "cheap cable". With development/materials/production/marketing/delivery/etc., you don't make high quality cables that are made to last and sell them for about a buck a pop -- unless you're out to lose money.

Any cable that snaps when pulling it through a wall is a "cheap cable" (and yes, I've since installed a wall-rated cable).

Again, just came here to share my experience (and other experiences I've come across when troubleshooting issues) with cheap cables and the construction quality and strong feedback I noticed with the BR cables. Typically, it's welcomed by the community (as is evidenced by the reps and by the other people also sharing their bad cable experiences). But it's all good man. Keep on keeping on.

Yeah, you came here to share your experience with cheap cables not working with the AVR-1700. Thats great, and I just wanted to point out that the reason why the cable wasn't working with the receiver probably had nothing to do with the construction quality of the cable just the fact that the cable manufacturer did not design the cable to support the YCbCr color space and higher color depths; it is an optional specification and resellers will often provide false information in what the cable actually supports based only on the cable version number. I replied to your post because I have the AVR-1700 and it works with my cables, but I had previously bought a v1.4 HDMI cable that claimed it included ethernet support, but it did not. I thought your case could have been similar... I was trying to be helpful.

Somehow me replying to your post turned into a pointless argument.You're welcome to warn people about your negative experiences with cheap HDMI cables just as I am to share my positive experiences. Lets just leave it at that.
