Worked well at first on his apple devices but this last IOS6.1 update killed the app and so far no update to get it back up and running.

I think what was meant is that the developer isn't keeping up with the iOS upgrades. It takes time so I wouldn't worry. Plus there are plenty of IP cam apps that could probably access these cameras.
