Got these for $40 on Black Friday 2012 and they are working great to stream HD video & HDTV through my 1958 house.

I upgraded from good quality Trendnet 200mbs adapters to these. Using these I can finally stream all my BD backups to my media centers. I jumped from around ~4MB/s to ~8MB/s.

I was concerned about their life spans of these puppies as I have heard that these get very hot and the throughput goes down (or the unit gets damaged).
Do you guys keep it on 24/7/365 or turn them ON when needed?

I also picked these up on Black Friday weekend. I am impressed with them. While I don't get anything near the advertised speed this is to be expected. They are faster than the N Wifi I had and was using to try and stream video from a Plex server to a Roku. In the past electrical noise has been the death of these and performance (IE turn on the microwave and watch speeds die). When I got them I tested them hard and could not stop my movie from streaming. I turned on/off lights, microwave, oven, blender, Dyson, garage door, AC, Noisy LED strip, and more.

Mine might get warm if that but not hot. I leave them plugged in all the time because I want network connectivity on my devices all the time. Power use is quite small. In the summer if we have a really bad thunderstorm on the way I will probably unplug them (Switching computer to wifi) since since you can't protect them with a UPS or surge protector.

A while back I was looking at something like this that had 4 ports on one of the transceivers. Can a cheap $10 switch work on the end of one of these or can it be only one device plugged into it?

I'm trying to get my two office computers upstairs off of my way crowded 54g wireless.

Yes a switch will work with these

In for another pair. This saves me the time, effort & $$$ to wire my home with Cat6 (which I would really love to do).

In for one kit. Had a pair of Netgear XAV2001 and pair of TL-PA211. Lightning strike two days ago seems to have taken out one of the XAV2001. Great timing, thanks Newegg and OP.

Mine adapters are in a location that is not visible, so smaller size for $10 more is not the better deal.
