From all the tests I've seen there will be no performance issues using SATA II rated cables with SATA III (that is to say, they shouldn't be able to be fully saturated in normal usage.

you know what's inside a cable? a thin filament of copper.

you know what's inside an expensive cable? a thin filament of copper.

you know what's inside a SATA XXC extra 6TB plus premium? a thin filament of copper.

you get the idea

unless there's more pins (hence more thin filaments of copper) there's no difference in hell from one cable to another.

and i'm talking about speed, not reliability. so how thin it is and how well supported and mounted the connectors and terminations vary from one to another (but not much). But it won't have any impact on performance or sata standards. unless, again, there's more pins.

So please, smack the face of the next person that even mention a speed on a sata cable. always.

and when you open your computer case bag of cables, and there's a blue one for the 6gb SATAIII port, write them on how retarded you think they are. and just out of spite, use the black cable on the sata 6gb port and the blue cable for the sata 3 ports.

Me too got many cables from meritline, but in my experience, at least half of them turn to cause IO errors.
I am not promoting $10 spending for a SATA cable, but just want to mention there is some quality difference between different cables.

These in the OP seem better than the usual cheap ones.

Not at the moment. I remember a deal for a red sata cable at $0.40 each. These are good quality cables though. I won't argue with that.

yea i bought several from meritline. while they are cheap, they dont last very long imho. over a year or so i had to replace the majority of them bcuz the sata cables stopped working. (file transfers wouldnt work and the drives arent even recognized half the time). put some new sata cables on and problem was solved.

Different colors helps me sort the ports so I don't have to backtrack the cable.

But anyway, color or supposed rating on the cable packaging does not matter at all. I'm a big fan of the meritline 3/1 with 90deg latches that go for $1 sometimes, never had any trouble with them. This is still a good deal if you need one, and it's OOS anyway, so not sure why I'm posting, lol.
