Preheating depends on your preference for a crispy or not so crispy crust. For homemade pizzas I preheat the stone, dust with cornmeal, then use a pizza peel also sprinkled with lots of cornmeal to get the pizza on the hot stone. The cornmeal is key, it keeps pizza from sticking to the stone. The stone will get "seasoned" after a while, i.e. turn brown. They're heavy and awkward to store, I leave mine on the bottom rack of the stove. Since they're porous you're not supposed to use detergent on them. Hope you like it, seems to be a love/hate thing with these. Love mine!

I've never had a problem getting someone on the phone when I call Customer Service. I usually call later in the afternoon. Usually someone picks up right away and transfers you. That second wait is usually a lot longer. Their response to email is pretty slow/bad though.

Last time I bought something from them, I never got an order confirmation email. They did send me a shipping confirmation email. I'm guessing you didn't set up an account so you wouldn't be able to check when you log in.
