400 points gets you a shutterfly 11x14 poster worth $8. This code is 5 points. You would need 80 of them for something worth $8. That makes each code worth about $0.10.

You're correct; not worthless. If redeemed optimally, worth maybe half a cent each. So these 5 points are worth 2.5 cents for a minute of your time. If you could do it for an hour straight, you'd make $1.80 worth of kids' stuff. So it depends how much you value your time.

If anyone ever sees a Sams/Walmart/Other giftcard offered again (as others have reported seeing in the past), I would appreciate it if you would start a thread mentioning it. I was saving up for the big wheel, but since they got rid of that reward, I have nothing I want to spend my 4000 points on.

Regardless of your opinion on how valuable a code is, you are knocking another user and telling them to stop posting helpful deals to others simply because it bothers you and you don't want to use it. Not only is that completely selfish, it also might make other people think twice about posting similar deals that many other members, including myself, enjoy taking advantage of. If you don't/won't use it, that's fine, but simply move along and don't bash others for posting helpful links to others.

You're referring to their ask price. The "worth" would be what you'd be willing to pay in the absence of points for it. Shutterfly products/credits, for those who desire them, can be had free or very cheaply, so I'd guess there are few people who would actually fork over a full $8 for the poster. For anyone who would, your calculation makes sense.

I think that a more reasonable estimation of value would be how much cash you could obtain for the various items if you sold them. Based upon that, the points are likely worth closer to half a cent each, so 5 points is 2.5 cents.

Assuming that's a reasonable valuation, you can ask, "If I didn't spend 10 minutes of my time obtaining 25 cents-worth of these points each month, I'd be 25 cents poorer, but what would I do with the time instead? Call a friend? Catch up on sleep?" I suspect that most people who think through it carefully would choose to spend their time on anything but these redemptions.

Which begs the question... why am I spending two minutes of my time typing this when I'm making $0? Entertainment!
