Comparing Insurance

I haven't found a good one. Doing the permutations is a PITA (e.g. whole bundle vs. piecing it off to different companies).

I personally use an independent agent.... he can do that footwork faster than I can.

I usually do some leg work myself by calling some of the agents in my area using a phone book. Hit the big brand insurance companies. Another option I do is find independent insurance agent that contracts with more than one insurance company and let him price shop for me. I also use this website as well to price shop for my auto/home ins. You put in your info and they forward your info to insurance agents in your area as leads, these insurance agents than contact you and give you a quote:

If you're truly wanting the same coverage as Amica is currently offering you, then your choices are very limited as very few companies offer the level of customer service that Amica offers. Year after year after year they're rated the best insurer in America (along with USAA).

Cheap premiums with insurers who offer poor customer service are a false savings as they will not be there for you when you need them.

When comparing companies, be sure to also compare how they rank with Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates.

Yeah, that's one thing I'm concerned about....losing the customer service and reliability of Amica.

One thing you may want to consider (if you haven't already) is raising the deductibles on your auto and homeowner's insurance to the sky. Especially with homeowner's insurance, you want to avoid making small and even medium size claims. So, a higher deductible not only makes practical sense, it also makes financial sense as it saves you plenty of money.

What should the HO deductible be? Right now I'm at $1K.

If your mortgage company will allow it, raise it to $5,000. If not, see if they'll allow $2,500. As high as you can go is best.

Homeowner's insurance should be treated as catastrophic insurance. Small claims only work against you. They raise your rates at best and, at worst, they get you canceled. Therefore, since it's only a good idea to make large claims, it makes most sense to raise your deductibles as high as you can. This can also work to help deter you from making smaller claims.

Consumer Reports did a cost-benefit analysis of raising your deductible on homeowner's insurance. They found that even if you file a claim in relatively short order after raising your deductible, you still save money over time. It pays to raise your deductible as high as you can. Got here looking for a way to compare options for my condo insurance. I was hoping to find something where I enter my information once and it shows me quotes from multiple insurance providers, sort of like kayak.com for flights. I can't believe there isn't a single website that can do this.

I tried netquote.com that seemed promising at first, but it doesn't show any quotes instantly. It probably sends your information to insurance companies and then you need to hash it out with agents from all these companies.

Netquote is not an insurance agency so they won't be sending or showing you any instant quotes. They are a lead marketing company that pass your information to insurance agents who purchased leads from them. Once netquote sends the information to the agents. They will quote you based on your information and contact you asap.

I've used them in the past and have gotten good results.

I know its not an insurance company. I was looking for something that can help me compare instant quotes from multiple insurance providers.It seems I'm chasing bigfoot.
