I have this camera. Love it.

Until it gave me the lens error message after two months.
Canon replaced it with a new one(!)..

Just glad that I have extended warranty after Canon factory warranty expires.

that is a known design flaw.

The Canon PowerShot S100 may look nearly identical to the S95 on the outside, but internally it is a significant update to the line, with its three main imaging elements all upgraded. Secondly, Canon has introduced its new DIGIC 5 processor which brings with it slightly faster continuous shooting, automatic fringing/CA reduction and more sophisticated noise reduction. And last but not least, Canon has created a brand new 12MP CMOS sensor, designed in-house for the S100. These three improvements, working in unison ultimately result in a camera that is more versatile, and capable of capturing slightly better images, slightly faster than its predecessors.

I just sold my S95 TODAY to upgrade to the S100...and ordered it this morning on Amazon for $279. I just chatted with their customer service rep and they adjusted it to the $249 for me. I love this camera and have used it extensively...highly recommended.

My Canon s100 also gave me this error. Just had it fixed under warranty last week. Good luck to those who buy this camera. It takes great pictures, but it could give you problems in the future

I read that. I know that feature-wise, it is a better camera. But many people have complained that side-by-side, picture quality-wise, S100 is NOT an upgrade. The common lens error issue does not help either.

I very recently compared shots taken with the S95 to the S100 and the S100 is the clear victor, especially at low light. Photographer of 7 years fwiw.

Had my S100 for awhile too and got that lens error for no particular reason! Since it was still covered by warranty, I shipped it in (my cost) and they fixed it. So far so good...better not happen again. Articles say that the initial S100 batches had lens issues. Supposedly the new ones shouldn't have this happen...who knows.

I strongly advise anyone buying Canon point&shoot cameras to
get extended warranties. I got mine from Best Buy.

The S100 lens error came on early.

My other Canon P&S camera is the old G10. It had 2 lens errors.
Once under factory warranty and once under Best Buy protection
plan. (two more and I get a new camera of same price, which
will be the G15! )

Seems likea very common problem with Canon cameras made in
the last 3 to 4 years.
