Heads Up: Straight talk, Net10, tracphone removing AT&T offering. AT&T SIMS still available at walmart.com until sold out

Deal Details

I spoke with Straight Talk tonight about switching and was told that they recently have decided that AT&T will no longer be offered. Anyone with a current AT&T SIM will continue to receive service but once SIMs are sold out, no more will be offered.

So as a heads up to people who love ST or net10, might want to buy another backup AT&T SIM while supplies last at walmart.

Retail price may be a hot deal as sold out = gone for good.

Rep did not tell me why they were doing this but the straightalk website confirms it as you can now only order a T-mobile SIM.

I have a samsung s3. I plan on selling it once my contract is up and getting in on this deal if I can activate this sim card at a later date.
Oh yeah if you're planning on selling the CDMA GS3 and getting a GSM phone at a later date that shouldn't be a problem. The only catch is no one really knows for sure if they would honor activating the SIM later or if they're actually severing the AT&T contract and weening people off.

How do you pay far less every month by purchasing the Galaxy S3 straight out? Please be specific, because I am thinking about getting one soon and I would prefer to not have a contract. Thanks in advance!
prepaid service is cheaper. straight talk is $45/month for "unlimited" everything. i switched from verizon and have used that, and right now i'm on a $30 t-mobile plan, 100 minutes, unlimited text, 5gb data per month. it's awesome compared to the small fortune the big carriers charge. when the they subsidize the phones (ie. you buy for $0 - $200 instead of $600 - $700 retail), the monthly service is higher to cover their cost of making you believe phones are dirt cheap. but then, after your contract is up, you still pay that high level. so to get your money's worth, you need to upgrade every time you're eligible to otherwise you're paying way too much for service. enter prepaid. buy your own phone, pay for (more) reasonable service. you can save a lot of money over a period of time, there's just a large upfront fee.

Has anyone ported their number to ST from AT&T recently with this deal. Planning to do so soon, can someone enlighten first timers like me on how to do it without screwing it up.
Thanks.

I did it online through straight talk's website:

http://www.straighttalksim.com/

Register an online account, then follow the instructions. Check with ATT to see if you a have 4 number pin as you will need to enter it online.

I ported my wife's number from ATT and it was relatively painless.

Hey

Does anyone know why Walmart has problems with my order (ST $45/Month Card)? I was able to order the SIM card without any problems but am presently unable to purchase any recharge cards...

Thanks
Maxie

Net10 is a straight tall alternative (it is a different brand from the same company, Tracfone, and it does and will have AT&T SIM available. Price is $50 but it drops to $45 with auto-refill.

There are plenty of resellers so you can take advantage of that as well if Net10 stops selling AT&T SIM cards directly.

Thanks.

Step 1) Go to straightalk website and do the porting. Get the ticket # that is generated.
Step 2) Then immediately go to facebook.com and search for StraightTalkWireles I think. Go to that page, click on support, and provide them with the ticket number from Step 1.

I did this about two years ago. StraightTalk has CS reps in Mexico and sometimes they screw up things. But ST Facebook is manned by more knowledgable folks and my porting happened within a few hours. Enjoy!

And for folks that have Discover Card. If you go through ShopDiscover.com to Walmart, you get 5% off when you buy the 90 day card. It costs me $42.30/month doing this way. Saving about $5/mo for wife and me.

I'm on the fence about leaving ATT for ST. Curious, why did you cancel ST a few months ago? Not happy with the service?

I was using it with my iphone and the service was actually really good. $45 was too much since I barely used any minutes. So I switched to Android and got the $30 prepaid plan. Im switching back to my old iphone and im not sure if tmobile edge speeds will do it.

thanks for the reply.
currently paying ATT 135 a month for a smartphone and two dumbphones. I'm thinking I could get three smartphones with data for about the same price on ST, but don't want to lose any coverage, which ain't great in SW Minnesota to begin with...

I recieved my online order. The SIM card or anywhere in the packet does not say AT&T as a carrier. Is there a way to find out if I got the right card because it may be few weeks before I activate it?
