Bytecc AD101 Analog to Digital Audio Converter - FREE After Rebate + S&H @ Frys.com

Since I have to ask, I probably don't need this, but what would you use this for?

I was thinking clean signal transmission in a carPC... that's what I'd use it for anyway. Digital signal from the computer all the way up to the amp, then this converter before you run the signal in.

I can't imagine what this could be used for. Maybe from some old analog source to your PC? But you can just use Line-in for that.

Maybe you have a receiver that only takes digital signals, and some analog audio source?

Yeah, I'm not quite sure, but its FREE.

Basically it's making the Analog Left and Right Audio into a single Toslink (Digital Optical Audio) output.

Might not have a use for it, but it could be something you want to have in your "box of cables".

Just so people are aware, Bytecc rebates are notoriously slow. I emailed them about rebate status from a Black Friday deal and got this email:

I'll second the slow-to-unreliable bytecc rebates. And they seem to sell a ton of stuff free after rebate. They probably make up the product cost on the time value of your money as they sit on it for months on end.

Ha, thanks! Fortunately I actually use the item that I bought from them for FAR. Otherwise I'd be pissed that they've been sitting on my cash for all that time.

I'd think twice about trying for a rebate through Bytecc. I submitted one last Memorial Day and first they had the wrong address for rebate submission. After I called them and got the correct address, I resubmitted the rebate again. After waiting a couple of months, I called them and they had lost my rebate submission. I told them that I'd report them to Frys if they didn't honor the rebate because they seem to sell many items through Frys. I'm sure they wouldn't want to lose Frys' business. I submitted the rebate again through email and finally got the rebate. It was one of the worst rebate experiences I've had.
