I see it, but it's just an OK deal IMO. Airport locations always have cheap per day prices. It's all the special airport taxes that end up driving up the cost.

I've rented a car twice so I don't know how to get the best deal yet. Couple of questions for the Hertz veterans out there:

Are cars typically more expensive on weekdays than weekends?

Is it not better to rent from a Hertz Local Edition (HLE)? As I understand it, their rates are much better than the airports and they will pick you up. Maybe not from the airport, but from your hotel provided you can get there via a shuttle/cab.

It works in CA. I used it on a trip to Sacramento back in October. However, I don't think that it's that great of a deal. Last month I got roughly $6.50 using carrentals.com. Last year I got 8.50/day in San Francisco with Hertz at the counter, but that's definitely YMMV cause I couldn't replicate it again this year.

somewhat unrelated, but Enterprise has $9.99 weekend days at my local area locations.

I just paid $41 for a 3-day weekend rental from a location down the street.

Also, Costco Travel will take the price down to $35 for 3 days, but that only includes 300 miles.

Enterprise only does 100mi/day with their weekend rate.

The previous special at Hertz let me use the code at non airport locations. The code is the same as the previous one but of course now it won't work anywhere but the airport and like someone said they add in facility and recovery charges. Just got a quote for next Friday through Monday and it came out to ~75. Thats about 4 bucks less a day than my normal rate so it's not worth the 40 miles to our larger airport.

price ended up being cheaper through Costco Travel [costcotravel.com], but even then it's more expensive than just parking my car at the airport lot... too bad cause i hate paying for parking--the cornerstone slickdealer personality trait.
