I agree, the Nook HD is my personal favorite out of all the tablets due to its high resolution screen, light weight, battery life, and, of course, the microSD slot. With that said, not everyone is thrilled by this tablet because it's missing some bells and whistles such as GPS and you must root the device in order to get Google Play. I do wish it could charge through a microUSB cable though. I hate proprietary charging cables...

Edit - I wanted to add that the Nook HD is able to play 1080p mkv videos and play games such as Dungeon Hunters 3 without a hitch. I haven't noticed any significant lag issues.

don't you think $179 brand new with a case is preferred than $149 refurbished without the case? plus thsi case clicks on as te back cover as well

What this tablet has that the Nexus 7 lacks is the IR Blaster so that the Tab 2 can do double duty as a universal remote.

I'm not that tech savvy... does that mean I would be able to use some type remote to control movies I would upload to the tablet?

I just spent about $120 on a car DVD player and am trying to figure out if it's worth returning it and getting this. It obviously has the extra features a tablet provides over a standard dvd player and it may be worth the extra $.

In my opinion the Nexus 7 is a far better choice. Sure its not expandable memory but come on. Who is loading big movie files still anymore. When I'm in the house I stream everything from my media server to my tablets with ES File Explorer using MX Player to watch. It's great. Also even if I did want to copy movies I crunch them to 700 megs for a 2hr movie. That's a fair amount of hours of movies to keep on standby IMHO. The build/weight/grip of the Nexus 7 is way better than any other 7 inch tablet IMHO. Also it's a Nexus device so easy to root and load custom ROMS. Awesome stuff.

I'm actually waiting for the Polaroid M7 to come out. It's got a dual core A9(good enough for me) and a 7inch 1280x800 IPS display, Jelly Bean and EXPANDABLE MEMORY for $129. Looks promising.

I don't think so. The Nook 7 HD has a better screen, processor, and weight (it's lighter) but less sensors. The Nook Tablet is also better in terms of raw value as it can be found for under $100 and has comparable specs (a little better screen but less sesnors). The Tab 7.0" has an IR blaster, GPS, and more sensors going for it. I don't consider the cameras an advantage because all reviews say that the camera is god-awful, but if you need to take Iphone 3gs-quality photos there you go.

The proprietary charging cable at least charges faster than the 5W charging of USB. With a google play app like BSplayer, the Galaxy Tab should do 1080p as well.

There are IR blaster addons for both android and iOS and relatively cheap. This was a reason I considered the Tab 7.0 for a while though but I think this tablet only becomes a deal at 149.99 or less given how very dated it's processor is and the low resolution/quality PLS screen.

People who want more memory for movies are probably people who travel a lot (just a guess). I'm on the fence for this exact reason. I'm driving from the East Coast to Chicago in a few weeks and I need enough memory for round trip. I just bought a portable DVD player and am thinking about returning it & getting this tablet.

Can someone comment on the screen if you have 1? The resolution1024x600 seems low and it's not IPS.
Does the screen look worse than ipad 2? The network thingies are nice to have though.

One more thing I know is that this has a back camera and the nexus 7 doesn't which is a strong factor For me at least. I believe there is more but I am not into this that much.
