How do you compare these speakers to Mirage MX 5.1 HT?
Don't have a direct comparison, had the gen3's (i think) and they sounded great paired with a KSW-12 sub. Very smooth and clear. I like classical music, classic rock, heavy metal, and movies. Only reason I sold them was to go to an in wall 7.1 setup. I still have 2 sets of Klipsch 4.1 promedia computer speakers that are similar in sound, just cheaper cabinets.
Are these better than BOSE?
Depends on what Bose we're talking about. I'm a Bose fan as well, but I think Quintets sound better than any bose cube package i've heard. You start going up from there and i'll agree. But then again, You could go up in Klipsch as well, and i'd swoon for some RF-7's over a set of x01's any day. I've had 201 and 301's personally, still have my 201's for rocking out in the man cave.
For music does this work or only for movies. Can't play music in surround right?
Depends on your receiver, most should have a multi-channel music mode. 'SOME' music will play well in Dolby ProLogic, if it was made for it, lots of classical stuff and movie soundtracks from Eric Kunzel come to mind. As for rock/pop/etc, better pick a multichannel stereo mode or 'stadium' something or other.
