Yeah, we know all about the whole process.... - don't fill the bottle to the top with water. - tilt the bottle and pour the syrup slowly. Still happens. And not much point of making a 0.5L bottle of soda if it really isn't a 0.5L bottle of soda. Guess you could always just mix up a bottle then pour it into another bottle until you have enough soda to get you through the day. Then again, I'm not a science guy and the whole mixing and pouring into test tubes isn't my thing. Makes perfect sense why the in-store rep refused to make more than half a bottle at a time, even when he had 8 people standing around and wanting to try the same flavor.....no sink for him to run over to to stop the mess. Not sure why they never put a "spout" on the measuring lid - I'm sure it would make it easier to pour into the bottle. Never figured out why the syrup includes artificial sweeteners in the non-diet flavors. The cola and orange soda flavors (and I'm sure others.....don't feel like digging those out of the pantry right now) both include Splenda and acesulfame potassium, along with regular sugar. Guess that is to cut down on sugar and calories, but not really keen on pumping my kids full of artificial sweeteners for the few cans of soda they drink each week. Again, good for those that enjoy the system. Was great fun for the kids to show all their friends, but quickly died out for us. Kids seemed to prefer "regular" soda and within a week or two it was sitting around collecting dust. Good to see the syrup is coming down it price.....appears that it was closer to $6 ($5.79) when we bought the system......then again, we always seem to have 30% off at Kohl's, so it was closer to $4 per bottle. The whole carbonated juice thing sounds kind of cool. Haywood Jablomi ![]() Stimulating the economy, one slick deal at a time! If I tolerate something, I'm showing tolerance. So, if I ignore something am I then showing ignorance? |

I think it depends a lot on the flavors you go with. Of the sodastream original flavors, I think the root beer and dr pete flavors are the best, and closest to the store taste. The countrytime flavors are just plain superb, and there's really no substitute at the store. I'm not a fan of their Cola flavor--though I haven't tried the more expensive cane-sugar version yet. You're telling me your kids would rather drink milk and water--and would let the sodastream system sit in a closet? That tells me you must be doing something very, very wrong. And why don't you get 1L bottles instead of 0.5L--it'll obviously cut down on the number of times you have to refill. And I've had good experiences refilling the 1L bottles--cannot speak for the 0.5L. If you're really having that much trouble, it's either a problem with the smaller capacity bottles, or you're not doing it right. I used to buy generic Soda's, and I can't count the number of times I got a bottle that was flat or semi-flat. Even if the sodastream syrup taste isn't quite as good as similar coke/pepsi products, it's still better than the generics--without a doubt. And as a kid, I happily drank the generic soda (which tasted like swill) when water was the other option--which is why I cannot understand why your kids would shun the sodastream concoctions. This may be another "back in my day" kind of argument, but kids are kids--they'll take whatever soda they can get. Last edited by MOkoFOko; 02-09-2013 at 09:33 PM.. |

And you don't want your kids knocking over any sized tank with highly compressed gas, especially a 20lb one. Not to mention the fact that knocking it over would yank your sodastream off the counter, possibly breaking it and the co2doctor adapter. Last edited by horn34; 02-09-2013 at 09:39 PM.. |

It's certainly not any cheaper, but this guy has some awesome syrups:
http://pittsburghsodapop.com/ Every one I have tried is better than anything I have tried from Sodastream, even the natural rootbeer. The energy drink on that site is about a dead ringer for Red Bull. I made Red Bull and vodkas with it at my Super Bowl party and people didn't even know the difference. I have also bought flavor concentrates from this website which you mix with simple syrup, which is certainly cheaper than full price Sodastream syrups: http://www.prairiemoon.biz/fulflavlissa.html But I haven't messed with those yet. Made some bubblegum soda syrup for the kids at the SB party, but that's the only one I've messed with and refuse to even try it myself, lol. Just some other options out there for SS owners, even if they aren't cost savers. |

The newest bottles they had were February 2014--all of them were Cherry Cola--and completely bought out those ones
