and what are the recommended flavors by sodastream vets?
I find most of the SS syrups to be garbage. Due to the sweeteners that they use they all have a diet / aspartame taste to them. That said, there are a few flavors that we're ok with.
Fountain Mist - Close enough to Mt Dew that I'll drink it and I'm a pretty die hard Dew guy
Dr Pete - Not as "spicy" as Dr Pepper, our household thinks that it tastes like mixing Dr Pepper and Pepsi. I like it
Energy Drink - Pretty close to Red Bull. I'm more of a Monster Import fan, but the cost savings on buying this has me switched (though I don't believe it is as effective as Red Bull or Monster as an actual energy drink. I believe it really only has a high dose of caffeine, none of the "extras")
Lemon-Lime - I'm a big fan of this. Doesn't taste like Sprite, doesn't taste like Sierra Mist. It has it's own taste that we're all pretty fond of.
Pink Grapefruit - Tastes like.. pink grapefruit.. Very light and refreshing.
Root Beer - This one is at the bottom of the "drinkable" list for us. We all pretty much prefer Pepsi products which tend to be sweeter than the Coke counterparts. IE, I really like Mug root beer. This is closer to Barq's or something, but is has a diety/aspartamey after -taste.
I haven't tried the ginger ale yet, but I want to. I would be surprised if it's possible to really screw that one up.
We went to the Sears in Albuquerque,Nm @ coronado mall and got 6 bottles of syrup for under 9 bucks!
They were ringing up @4.79 each at the little scanner things but when the employees rang up all 3 and hit subtotal it took them down each to the 1.43 each, and even less with the coupon in the sunday paper! I plan on hitting up our other Sears in town tomorrow. haha
For those having problems finding the SS products, I had a hard time finding them as well. I ended up finding a very small cardboard display near the pots and pans in the households section. The display was only ~4' tall by maybe 1.5' x 1.5'. Not large at all.
I went to the store by me, and they didn't even have any of the machines, let alone any of the syrups. I asked one of the guys, and he thought I said sewing machines and sent me back to that area. I was seriously confused for a minute why they would have them in that area. Everyone there was clueless.
