Well I rec'd it tonight and the base stand was completely cracked and broken off. I can't tell if it was broken during shipping or not but my gut says 'not' since the box was fine... Cowboom acts like they have TVs for pickup only in Chino and when I asked if they could just ship me the stand for one they said they'd have to 'research' and get back to me within 5 days... or they'll give me a $20 refund - but I can't even find a replacement stand online so that wouldn't do any good.

Got the TV (Toshiba) - it's in horrible condition. Besides the dents and scratches (which I can live with), the colors are way off (like some weird green tint in some places that's like a stuck pixel and won't go away). Also, some idiot sticky-taped all over the screen and body and it left really nasty sticky marks that won't wipe off. This is going back - even if it was $50, I would send it back. Just plain horrible.
Mine was rated Grade 6 |

I received the toshiba (grade 5) last week. It physically is in excellent condition. But I am really unhappy with its tuner. Some really strong channels keep dropping-off frequently and it is annoying me.
I have two usb tuners 2 - 3 years old (avermedia hybrid volar max and hauppauge 950Q) both of which can give a steady picture on the same channels from the same antenna feed. It seems to me that the tuner has very poor performance under multi-path interference. The tuner in this tv is Panasonic ENV56U05D8F, the details of which are harder to find than the details of nuclear facilities in North Korea. I am at a loss as to whether the tuner toshiba uses is that bad or the tv I got has a bad tuner. I called toshiba support and want me to use a signal booster. If I give it for warranty service they may take a while and at the end may not find any fault because it works fine with some other channels. And I won't be able to verify that they fixed it until I bring it to my house. I can return it. But I won't find a tv for that price any time soon. It is worth the money even if I use it as a monitor. But the tuner problem bugs me. Other than the tuner the picture is very good once you switch off the auto brightness sensor under Menu - Preferences - Energy Savings Settings . But it will increase the energy consumption from 27W to 65W as reported by Kill-A-Watt. Last edited by ChimeM; 02-22-2013 at 09:29 PM.. |
