1. You lose your upgrade eligibility (as in Value) 2. It seems to work for people who are upgrade eligible or soon to be upgrade eligible only. What would TMO get by giving you 5GB for $5, especially if you're not renewing, as you didn't have to? |

Finally made the switch to the value plan:
Had- 3000 min with unl. nights and weekend and t-mobile to t-mobile with data one line (5gb) - Paying $155 after taxes. Now- 2 lines unlimited 2 lines 500 mins + 1 line data (2gb) + N& W and Tmobile to Tmobile also got $150 credit. And now pay $90 ish month after taxes. Seems like a better deal in every way. Hopefully its helps someone. |

I currently am paying $45 per month after taxes on a grandfathered plan with a few new bells in the mix. I have 300 mins with weekends only, 1000 messaging, $5.99 tzones, and recently added unlimited any mobile to mobile for $10. I extended my contract 2 months ago for 2 yrs to get $10 per month off my bill. But I'm stuck using a Lumia 710, which I love but would like to use my unlimited data on a newer phone without having to worry about what tzones is unlimited with. Any ideas what CSR can offer me to let me have a cheap, good data plan on an HTC 8x? I am eligible for a phone upgrade still, so could I get an 8x and switch over data to a 5gb $5 plan, drop my $6 tzones, and be merry and happy? Will call tomorrow night, but just wanted to get some thoughts...

I called T-mobile and talked to the loyalty department and they said that i would have to extend my contract and i agreed, but when that was done and i went in to check my plan they were charging me $15 a month on the plan, and i called back today to ask why and they said that the plan is to bring cost down to $5 for the 2 gb plan and 15$ for the 5gb plan.
I rolled back my contract. |

As I understand it TM will no longer be subsidizing phones in 2013. That is, no more offering discounted phones in return for 2 year contracts (ie. Classic Plans). Valued plans offer lower prices and in return no free or lowered price phone "upgrades". When TM stops offering subsidized there would be no real point in paying more for a Classic plan.
If I understand this correctly it seems like TM is trying to get people on the Classic Plans to change over to Value Plans (TM will be dropping Classic Plans all together this year) and using $5/5 GB data plans to get people to do this. Where does the info come from that TM won't require people to switch plans? Certainly no one has had this change long enough to find out. You really think TM is simply going to lower $20/month data plans to $5/month and not require people to switch? With all of that said, I question what TM will do with the people who stay on the Classic Plans. Perhaps they _will_ need to offer these people discounted phone upgrades. I don't see why they would but why else try so hard to get people to switch? |

I'm 8 months into the Classic 1000 plan and when I just called to check on the Bridge to Value, they said I wasn't eligible. However, they gave me $10 a month off my bill for next six months just for calling in so I guess saving $60 for placing a 5 minute call wasn't too bad.

I've been "put into contracts" without my knowledge and consent before. And even after being told that they removed my "accidental contract", I've found out in the next billing cycle that they STILL didn't remove it. I would call back and speak to another rep and just ask the status of your contract, etc. |

Thanks. After your post I checked my account online and first note is about contract being renewed and then an additional note setting it back to original date. So looks like the discount would normally have renewed it but the rep than reversed that part. Thanks for the heads up though!
