We were lucky in that we were ripping out an original bathtub and installing a shower stall for a disabled person, and were able to mark exactly where the grab bars were to go, and have blocks put in at the time. With tile already in the bathroom it's much more difficult for the installation, but putting them on a diagonal would probably be the best solution for this. Use a stud finder to do this. Depending on when your home was built, it should be able to be done. On the outside wall leading into the shower stall, we had them cut out a piece of sheet rock, place a piece of wood block where needed, and patch it. This person sits on a shower chair while showering. So we didn't need another one near the front. As far as people talking about ones behind the toilet, there are grab rails that attach to a toilet that maybe installed, to help a handicap person get up and down, without the need to install anything else.
