For those on the fence, this is getting to be an older game, and is much more akin to GTA4 in feel than GTA3 (slower, more simulation than adventure). If that's to your liking, this isn't bad - otherwise might want to wait till you see it for $10. I REAALLY wanted to like it and eventually just gave in to the plodding pace and fact that it felt more like work than fun to play it. FWIW, I had the same reaction to GTA4 - really wanted to love it, tried and tried, and just couldn't enjoy it. TU for the people who are into this style.

I somewhat agree with you about the pace, but would like to add in that the pacing actually seemed to fit the western environment and story and so it "worked". I didn't find the pacing plodding at all in RDR. I did find the pacing plodding in GTA4. I think I only played about 2 hours total in GTA4, but I went through the main story of RDR twice. Atmospherically, I think I felt much more drawn in to the world of RDR than I did GTA4 (or other GTAs, except maybe Vice City), so the slower pace of feeling that you are "living in" the world worked.

I can see how it would not appeal to some gamers who only like games with a very fast pace, though.

Overall the original (non Game of the Year) version sits at 95/100 and 8.9/10 on Metacritic, so I think most reviewers weren't thrown off by the pace. http://www.metacritic.com/game/xb...redemption

As for going down to $10... it most certainly shall go down to $10 at some point. All games do, pretty much. This is the lowest I've seen it thus far, so if this hits anybody's price point it'll be great... those waiting for it to be $10 should definitely wait!

best buy was having a blowout on rockstar GOTY titles for xbox 360 and ps3 for $20 sometime between thanksgiving and christmas 2011. i picked up red dead redemption GOTY, GTA4 GOTY, and L.A. Noire Complete edition for $19.99 each. I have yet to see lower prices for any of those games (today's amazon price is $.03 cheaper )

i am not posting this to brag. i just want others to know the pricing history of these games. i am glad i picked them up for $20. that's a lot of gaming for the price of one new release. i still haven't beat any of them (played a lot of GTA4 but barely touched RDR and LA noire).

Agree that the laconic pacing works great in a Western. The feel of riding is outstanding, and the shootouts are pretty gripping. Almost worth it for Undead Nightmare alone.

I can see where you're coming from on the pacing, but I think urbach is right on with the pacing fitting the western theme. I absolutely loved the game, and that you can get it plus all that add-on content for $20 is a good deal. Undead Nightmare (part of this version) is not so much "add-on content" for RDR as much as it is its own game (not quite as big, admittedly) based on the RDR world.

For those claiming this is the lowest it has ever been, definitely not true. I ordered it on Black Friday 2012 for $15 from Amazon. I am sure it is due to drop down there again sometime soon, if not lower.

That being said, I just got around to starting it this weekend, and so far I am enjoying it. Haven't done more than a few story missions and I find I need to stop and take a break after 3-4 missions but that's just the right amount of gaming for my current lifestyle.

Disagree about the slower part but I guess it's all relative. I love this game and have been playing it for more than a year. Still on my regular rotation. And I thought GTA4 sucked.

Every time I see this game it reminds me of how sad I am that they didn't port it to PC.

me too, i even bought my first console XBOX 360 just to play this game but as a PC gamer, I couldn't quite control the characters and gave up and one day i gave it away to my nephew who was visiting from overseas. For some reason thought, i am in market again for XBOX 360 just to play this game which has been sitting underneath the tv.
