Dear Esther (PC Download) @ GMG $1.38

yea, you dont really interact with anything, no inventory or anything like that. you just keep walking and listening to the narration. it has nice scenery and is worth the 1.38.

Reminds me of Myst/Riven.

Its more of a story than a game, but still well worth the price. Has some pretty amazing visuals.

Oddest damned thing, I clicked the link to get it, then the next link to pay for it, and it told me that I can't buy it twice, and click here to install Capsule...

Once I installed Capsule, the game was waiting for me to download at $0.00.

I'm stumped.

The Steam version is controller enabled (used my 360 controller for it). I think it's a worthwhile buy. The world around you becomes part of the story, as you explore you're pulled deeper into the tale.

This has been freakin' me out each time I view the board. My name is Esther. Not seen a lot. My first thought wAs I really irritated someone to get my own thread.

This is a great game for people who hate games. You *walk* around an admittedly pretty landscape listening to a disconnected story that doesn't have much to do with anything. You don't touch anything, solve anything, eat anything, shoot anything. You can't lose. I might suggest investing in a nice screensaver as opposed to playing this game. Also, it's short.

Good price though, if you've got to play, it's worth the price of a cheeseburger I suppose.

This isn't a game, and this isn't art. Don't waste your time on gaming hipster crap.

It is interesting that the main argument spawned by Dear Esther involves "whether it's a game." Personally, I don't find it much more involved than the adventure games from the 80's, where the only "game" elements were typing complicated things like "grab rock" and then finding the wall with a missing rock. For me, the fact that you are allowed to explore the environment is enough to consider it a "game," but the argument is absurd anyways because whether or not it is a "game" has no bearing on whether it's "good."

And Dear Esther is excellent. While it's relatively short, it provides you with a compelling world to explore, complete with a haunting soundtrack and gorgeous visuals. I found the narrative to be moving if a bit predictable at moments.

Interested to see what the designers came up with for the Amnesia game.
