Dear Esther (PC Download) @ GMG $1.38

I tried it and it's definitely not for me. Wandering around in a game without direction is actually one of the things I enjoy least about video games. I was under the impression that the direction was going to be something more along the lines of "the Walking Dead" but without interacting with anything.

It seems like a pretty wide open world and a person reads to you from a diary when you reach specific points on the stage by 'eventually wandering into it'. It's neat for what it is if you are into this type of stuff and if you are $1.38 is a pretty good price.

If you wanna see what it's like without spending the $1.38 first there are full walkthrough videos available on youtube (given the limited interaction it's basically like playing the game) and if you like what you see you can pay the $1.38. Thank you for that link; while I think the visuals are nice, I now know that this is just not 'for me'.

I am going to go ahead and buy it because of good reviews. I don't want to watch any vids and spoil the story.

Can anyone who has played tell me if this is kid safe? I have a 4 and 6 year old that love watching me play games, but I keep them away from violence or scares. If anyone can give me an OK for kids or NOT OK, without spoiling the story, it would be much appreciated.

Probably not. I doubt the kid would fully understand it, but certain moments would raise questions that might be a little difficult to explain. I'd give it a PG-13 rating.

There's pretty deep use of symbolism in objects and metaphors in the fairly fast spoken narration. It was hard for me as an adult to follow without paying close attention and giving it some thought as I went along. Doubt your kids would notice much but they might be confused by all the random darker-themed elements appearing on screen. PG-13 sounds about right.

I really dont remember any swearing or violence at all in the game. If it were a film it would get a PG rating at most. Without spoiling too much the subject of death is explored, but the dialogue would probably be too difficult for them to follow, though they might enjoy the music and visuals of the game.
