I actually use this monitor for gaming, and the response rate is a non issue, it feels like there is a slight amount of motion blur in fast action, but that's it. Works great for movies and anything else.
This is a DisplayPort sink, the cable adapter to HDMI/DVI would not work to drive this display.
Cable adapters or active converters can be used to drive a HDMI/DVI/VGA monitor from a DisplayPort connection from your graphics card (what is required depends on the display type being driven and the whether the DisplayPort implementation is DP++ capable)
You could buy a very expensive converter box to do the translation, but it might be cheaper to upgrade your graphics card to a DisplayPort capable card, assuming the graphics of your computer can be upgraded.
