Need Advice: Google TV Vs. Android Stick
Here is my situation:i have a visio smart tv that has and plays the youtube and netflix apps and can also access my NAS filer share that has several videos (via DNLA). However it cannot play a lot of formats Like Blu Ray. On certain formats that it can play it complains about Audio and / Or video codec not supported. I also have a PS3 & Wii, i also use the PS3 to play the bluray format videos that my tv cant play. (however its a big pain using the PS3 for this purpose). I dont want to keep switching, would rather prefer to use once device to watch everything. My understanding is if i have a google TV i can play / stream almost all formats and it has other benefits too. There is also the question of the android stick, which can also access and play all formats. Which one do you think is more beneficial and effective (both cost and functionality). I am kind of leaning towards the Android stick since its portable i can pug it into any of my tv (smart or not) Let me know your thoughts.. |

I have the Sony Google TV and I love it. Using the ViMu (formly GTVBox) app, I can play all my videos. Also able to stream a lot of content from web sites via the built-in Chrome browser. The Flash is part of the OS and they have version 10.2 and no plans to upgrade it, so if there are sites/apps that require higher version then it won't work. Since its part of the OS, you can't manually update Flash. There are also many apps that provide streamed content from the internet.
If you are not in any hurry, then you may want to wait for the Ouya device to hit the streets. It is the new Android gaming console but will also be compatible with XBMC (developers are collaborating). It has a lot of potential. |
